For Shilpa Shetty, Baazigar marked not only a career-defining role but also her debut in Bollywood. The actress, who continues to be admired for her iconic scene in the movie — a moment that still circulates widely on social media — had once shared her experience of shooting it. “Akbar Bhai was the action director for the film, and we shot that scene nearly five times. I had a scar on my hip for nearly 8-10 years of my life because I was asked to wear a harness. Back in those times, we did not have any VFX. So, I had to act authentically to show what I was feeling, and the building was moving. But the makers thought that the scene could be shot better,” she said, adding with a laugh, “I have died nearly 15 times.”

Three decades later, Baazigar remains a cult favourite — a film that not only established Shah Rukh Khan as a star capable of taking risks but also marked the beginning of Shilpa Shetty’s remarkable journey in Indian cinema.

Dharmendra in a throwback interview: “I want to see diseases, corruption and discrimination eliminated from our country”

When India’s handsomest actor Dharmendra turned a young sprightly 89 on December 8 last year, his fans and well-wishers kept him busy throughout the day.

This writer had finally caught up with one of the most affable human beings in the entertainment industry late in the evening when Dharamji was exhausted. “But how can I not take your call even if I’m tired? You’ve always been so warm and loving, not only to me but also to Hema. My birthday wouldn’t be complete without your good wishes,” said Dharamji.

The only other actor who had the ability to make me feel so special was Dev Anand. Dev Saab is gone. I miss him.

“I was down with dengue for a while. Now there’s just some pain in my knees. Otherwise I am fine. I forced the dengue out of my knees,” Dharamji joked.

Always, that perfect comic timing. Remember Chupke Chupke, Pratiggya and Yamla Pagla Deewana?

Dharamji confessed he misses the camera. “I belong in front of the camera. I finally did a film (Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani) after some time. My fans and well-wishers miss me. Unke pyar ne mujhe zinda rakha hai. They’re my oxygen.”

I remind him of how much positivity and joy he spreads by just being himself.

Laughing shyly, Dharamji said, “God sent me down here to spread happiness, to put smiles on as many faces as possible during my lifetime. When you say I’ve succeeded in doing that, I feel my life is fulfilled. I can’t thank the Almighty up there and my well-wishers down here enough for all the love that I get. If I’ve been able to give back even a fraction of that love that I’ve got, I am a happy man.”

I asked Dharamji about his unfulfilled dreams, and he said, “I want to see every human being freed of pain. I want to see diseases, corruption and discrimination eliminated from our country. You say it’s impossible? I’ve always dreamt of the impossible. I was a boy from a small village in Punjab. Who would have thought I’d be loved by everyone?”

Does Dharamji have any favourite films from his oeuvre? “So many… They’re all special. But Hrishida’s (Hrishikesh Mukherjee)’s Anupama, Satyakam and Chupke Chupke were special.”

Coincidentally, his co-star in all the three favourite films was Sharmila Tagore who is born on the same day as Dharamji.

So, is Sharmila Tagore his favourite co-star?

“One of my favourites. But my most favourite co-star is Hema,” he said shyly.

This augurs well for a sustained run at the box office. We’re seeing a growth of approx. 100% in Saturday compared to Friday and expect a further 30-35% growth on Sunday.”

Anurag Kashyap says that Boney Kapoor offered him a film and flat after Paanch: “He told me, ‘Tu Bandra se Juhu ke beech kisi bhi building pe ungli rakh de. Uss building mein tujhe flat dilwata hoon’!”

Anurag Kashyap had a fascinating conversation with Komal Nahta and revealed that as a producer, he tries to be a part of the initial films of a director. He remarked, “Directors baukhla jaaye uske pehle main unke saath film banana chahta hoon!”

Anurag added, “I feel that every filmmaker goes a bit crazy after some point. Even today, I feel that if my (yet-unreleased) film Paanch had got a timely release in cinemas, I wouldn’t have been the person that I am today.”

He continued, “I remember Paanch had several trials. Boney Kapoor ji offered me a film at that time. Those were the days when I had arrogance. He asked me, ‘Why are you not making a film? Tu Bandra se Juhu ke beech kisi bhi building pe ungli rakh de. Uss building mein tujhe flat dilwata hoon’! I wondered, ‘My film hasn’t been released and he’s offering me a flat. After my film releases, I’ll be offered a bungalow’!”

In this interview, Anurag also lashed out at inflated ticket rates in cinemas, “Not just ticket prices, everything in a multiplex is quite expensive. It should all be affordable. Visiting a multiplex feels like stepping into a five-star hotel. Why would anyone spend so much money? It’s a self-defeating exercise because now a common man saves money to see only 2 films in a year.”

He continued, “2 samosas are sold for Rs. 200. A bottle of water is priced at Rs. 50. It is a very five-star type of experience, though cinema is supposed to be for the common man.”

Anurag listed out the basic essentials that a cinema hall should have, “You just ensure that the toilet is clean, seats are comfortable. That’s it.”

Mammootty starrer Bramayugam selected as the only Indian film for Academy Museum showcase in Los Angeles; actor shares excitement on social media

Mammootty’s critically acclaimed Malayalam folk-horror film Bramayugam is set to receive a rare international honour. The superstar took to X to announce that the film has been officially selected for a special screening at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles. Remarkably, it will be the only Indian film featured in the museum’s curated series titled ‘Where the Forest Meets the Sea: Folklore from Around the World’.

Sharing his excitement, Mammootty wrote, “Excited to share that #Bramayugam will be screened as the only Indian film at the Academy Museum’s ‘Where the Forest Meets the Sea’ film series in Los Angeles on February 12, 2026. Another moment of pride for the entire team behind #Bramayugam!”

The Academy Museum also confirmed the announcement, stating: “‘Bramayugam’ [2024] [Malayalam], produced by Night Shift Studios & YNOT Studios and written & directed by Rahul Sadasivan, will screen at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles. The screening will take place on February 12, 2026, as part of the Academy Museum’s ‘Where the Forest Meets the Sea: Folklore from Around the World’ film series, screening January 10–February 12.”

Bramayugam, released in February 2024, is a period folk-horror thriller that deep dives into Kerala’s sacred mysteries, myths and ancient folklore. Directed by Rahul Sadasivan, the film is the second chapter in his expanding horror universe following Bhoothakaalam (2022). Shot entirely in black-and-white, the film stars Mammootty in one of his most chilling performances, alongside Arjun Ashokan and Sidharth Bharathan.

The film drew widespread critical acclaim for its atmospheric world-building, genre-defying storytelling and Mammootty’s layered portrayal of Kodumon Potti. While long-time fans of the series rejoiced at the reunion of Riteish Deshmukh, Vivek Oberoi, and Aftab Shivdasani, others expressed discomfort over its bold, adult-themed humour.

Leave it to Karan Johar and Farah Khan to turn a simple ferry ride into a full-blown entertainment segment! Ahead of the much-anticipated 60th birthday celebration of Shah Rukh Khan at his luxurious Alibaug farmhouse, a video featuring Karan, Farah, and Navya Naveli Nanda on their way to the coastal destination has gone viral — and it’s every bit as funny and fabulous as one would expect.

In the clip, the trio can be seen sitting comfortably on a ‘ro-ro’ ferry heading to Alibaug, with Farah Khan doing what she does best — shooting the moment with her signature tongue-in-cheek commentary. Joining them was Navya Naveli Nanda, who shares a close friendship with Suhana Khan, while Karan Johar, as always, brought his trademark wit to the ride.

What really stole the spotlight, though, was their elaborate snack situation. Navya was spotted carrying what Farah described as a “Bridgerton-style picnic hamper,” neatly packed with a delicious assortment of goodies. From red chilli banana chips (which Karan Johar gleefully declared his favourite) to Kurkure, cookies, and the good old Marie Gold biscuits, the basket was a perfect mix of quirky and comforting travel snacks.

At one point, Karan proudly displayed a pack of Monaco biscuits, calling them the perfect accompaniment for tea — only for Farah to hilariously cut in with, “Just because we have Monaco doesn’t mean we’re going to Monaco! Enrique Iglesias’ Mumbai concert hit by theft spree: 73 phones worth Rs 23.85 lakh stolen

Global music icon Enrique Iglesias’ much-anticipated return to India was marked by both unforgettable musical moments and a shocking theft spree. The Grammy Award-winning singer performed at Mumbai’s MMRDA Grounds in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) on October 29-30, drawing over 25,000 fans to his two-day concert, which kicked off the “Enrique Iglesias Live in Concert – India Tour 2025.”

Amid the euphoria and a star-studded crowd featuring Bollywood celebrities like Malaika Arora, Vidya Balan, Rakul Preet Singh, and Jackky Bhagnani, at least 73 mobile phones collectively valued at Rs 23.85 lakh were reported stolen during the electrifying shows. The thefts, suspected to be the work of organized pickpocket gangs exploiting the dense crowd and high spirits, targeted a range of attendees, including a journalist, hotelier, makeup artist, students, and businesspersons.​

The concerts themselves were a spectacle, with Iglesias, dressed in his signature all-black ensemble, sending the crowd into frenzy with timeless hits such as “Hero,” “Bailamos,” and “Be With You.” Fans’ excitement didn’t wane even on the second night, despite heavy rains that turned the open-air venue into a soggy dance floor, but spirits remained high as Iglesias delighted the soaked audience with an unforgettable set.​

Mumbai Police have registered at least seven FIRs related to the thefts and begun investigating, with officials reviewing CCTV and other security footage in hopes of apprehending the culprits. The incident, while highlighting both the thrilling and chaotic aspects of large-scale concerts, has prompted renewed concerns over crowd security and theft prevention at major entertainment events in the city.​

R Madhavan on losing weight for Gopalswamy Doraiswamy Naidu biopic, “Artificial ways of de-aging should be strictly banned”

At 55, R Madhavan looks no more than 40. And now, to play the gaunt and wiry innovator Gopalswamy Doraiswamy Naidu, Madhavan has knocked off more kilos from his already-slim deportment.

Speaking exclusively to this writer, Madhavan revealed the secret of his youthful looks. “The secret is that there is no secret. I don’t do anything clandestine to look young. I don’t even pay any attention to how I look, until someone asks about it. I believe in eating, sleeping and living a balanced life. I think starving to look slim is a criminal method of trying to stay young. As for artificial ways of de-aging, they should be strictly banned.”

As for losing additional weight recently, Madhavan said it is the need of the role. “The character I play was extremely slim. If I don’t match up with him in the weights department, I won’t be able to feel and think like the character. What did I do to lose additional weight? Nothing! Just did some extra laps in the pool with my son.”

Madhavan’s son is national swimming champion.

Haq trailer launch: ‘”New mother” Yami Gautam Dhar shot for 32 days without a break,’ reveals director Suparn S Varma

Filmmaker Suparn S Varma, who has previously written and directed acclaimed projects such as The Family Man 2 and Rana Naidu, is now ready to bring another powerful story to the big screen with Haq. The courtroom drama, inspired by the historic Shah Bano case, stars Yami Gautam and Emraan Hashmi in pivotal roles and is set to release on November 7, 2025.

At the trailer launch held earlier today, Varma opened up about the years of research and emotional depth behind the film. “We’ve spent three years researching and writing this film to bring it to you,” he shared, adding, “When someone works with so much clarity and passion, they get the same applause and whistles that we’re hearing here today.”

Written by Reshu Nath, Haq goes beyond the genre of courtroom drama, delving into themes of justice, faith, and equality. Speaking about the motivation behind the film, Varma said, “When my writer Reshu Nath and I started writing and researching, our strength came from the fact that this is a film that needs to be made and talked about. Because these issues, like Emraan rightly pointed out, have been relevant for decades and still are.”

He continued, “It’s time we start having conversations and bring them out. We come from a place of honesty, love, and respect for all our brothers and sisters. And when you come from that space, the audience instantly feels the truth in your story.”

The filmmaker also praised Yami Gautam’s dedication to her role as Shazia Bano. “Yami was a new mother who did not go home even for a single day. For 32 days on set, she didn’t say a single word. On the last day, when I took her final reaction, I saw her smiling as Yami Gautam, not Shazia Bano. That’s when I realized what she had poured into this performance.”

Sharing his admiration for Emraan Hashmi, he said, “Emraan has done so many films; he could easily walk in with overconfidence. But I’ve never met an actor who treats every single day like his first. Both Yami and Emraan came to set like students: hungry, curious, fearless. That energy is infectious. When every person on set is giving their 100%, magic happens.”

Reflecting on the essence of the film, Varma summed up, “When you take up a story that challenges the idea of romance, of what a marriage means, the drama begins, and that’s where the truth lies. It’s about a man’s belief in what he wants, and a woman’s right to dignity and self-respect. These are fundamental questions in every relationship, in every society. And that’s the journey we’ve tried to capture.”

Haq, produced by Junglee Pictures in association with Insomnia Films and Baweja Studios, aims to reignite crucial conversations around justice, equality, and identity — told through a story that blends emotional truth with cinematic intensity.
