Chhaava Box Office: Vicky Kaushal starrer surpasses Gadar 2, Pushpa 2 and Animal; emerges as All Time highest first Wednesday grosser

The Vicky Kaushal starrer Chhaava has been performing exceptionally well at the box office. After opening to a thunderous response in Maharashtra, the Laxman Utrekar directorial, which also features Rashmika Mandanna, witnessed exponential business growth. The film, which collected Rs. 33.10 cr on its opening day, continued its stellar run into the weekdays. The sixth day saw record collections of Rs. 32.40 cr, a number nearly matching its first-day earnings. While a significant portion of these collections has been driven by Maharashtra, other regions across India have also shown a notable upswing in business, further solidifying Chhaava’s dominance.

The film shows no signs of slowing down and has already set multiple new records. After becoming the first film of 2025 to enter the Rs. 200 cr club, Chhaava has now emerged as the highest first Wednesday grosser of all time. Collecting Rs. 32.40 cr on its first Wednesday, the film has surpassed the previous benchmarks set by blockbuster titles such as Gadar 2, Pushpa 2 – The Rule, and Animal.

To put Chhaava’s remarkable feat into perspective, it managed to edge past Gadar 2, which collected Rs. 32.37 cr on its first Wednesday. Pushpa 2 – The Rule followed closely behind with Rs. 31.50 cr, while Animal, another box office juggernaut, registered Rs. 30.45 cr. Even Baahubali 2 – The Conclusion, which remains one of the highest-grossing Indian films of all time, recorded Rs. 26 cr on its first Wednesday, falling short of Chhaava’s numbers. Other notable big-ticket releases such as Dhoom 3 (Rs. 25.52 cr), Jawan (Rs. 23.83 cr), Good Newwz (Rs. 22.50 cr), Kick (Rs. 21.66 cr), and Dangal (Rs. 21.46 cr) all lag behind in this category, further cementing Chhaava’s place at the top.

As the film now heads into its second weekend, the momentum remains strong. Given its current trajectory, trade analysts predict that Chhaava will continue its dream run at the box office, with its business likely to surge even further. If the film maintains its momentum, it could near the Rs. 300 cr mark in the coming days, making it Vicky Kaushal’s highest-grossing release to date. Animal, Mismatcahed lyricist Raj Shekhar claims he hasn’t received credit for 30 songs; says, “We write with such passion and hard work”

Renowned lyricist Raj Shekhar, known for penning chartbuster songs in projects like Animal, Mismatched and the recent Shahid Kapoor starrer Deva, says out of the 100 odd songs he has penned over the years, he hasn’t been credited for nearly 30 of them.

Shekhar, who has written songs like ‘Pehle Bhi Main’ from Animal, ‘Ishq Hai’ from Mismatched 3, ‘Aise Kyun’ from Mismatched 2 and ‘Bhasad Macha’ from Deva, said it’s important for industry to come together and safeguard credit of the writers.

Speaking during the session “Words That Sing” at the 7th edition of the Indian Screenwriters Conference (ISC)— hosted by the Screenwriters Association of India (SWA)— Shekhar said, “I think we’re in the transition phase as a society we’re making mistakes but we’re slowly finding out where. Out of 100, 28-30 songs of mine are not credited to me.”

“That’s just me but what about others who can’t speak for their due credit? I urge the audience to find out the name of the lyricist if they like a song. We write with such passion and hardwork,” the lyricist added.

Shekhar—who made his debut as a lyricist with Tanu Weds Manu in 2011—also highlighted areas within the industry which need to change for better creativity.

“There is a gap between the screenwriter and the lyricist. There are plenty of times when I got to know tunes on WhatsApp without knowing the space it was coming from. The creative collaboration with director and writer feels missing as it was in times of Raj Kapoor and Shailendra,” he added.

At the session, moderated by screenwriter Hussain Haidry, Shekhar was joined by filmmaker-lyricist duo Siddharth-Garima, known for penning songs in Bajirao Mastani, Padmaavat, Animal and Kalki 2898 AD.

Garima noted how music streaming platforms such as Spotify need to design “a new crediting system” for artists in India.

“The platform follows the Western model, where performers write their own lyrics. However, in India, songs are often sung and written by different artists,” Garima said.

Siddharth, meanwhile, said the larger problem is also the reluctance to accept change, which is inevitable.

“Either it’s happening for good or bad, but acceptance is the first step. For example, Artificial intelligence is here and changing things. Now, it’s just artificial intelligence is here, if artificial imagination shows up, we’re doomed. We’ll be fighting for our words, not just credits. We have to adapt,” he added.

At the ISC, which concludes on Sunday, renowned screenwriters and creators including Shoojit Sarkar, C Prem Kumar, Christo Tomy, Hemanth M Rao, Vivek Athreya, Biswapati Sarkar and Anand Tiwari will be sharing their experiences, techniques and the secrets behind their most successful works, and how they negotiate the changing dynamics of the industry and its ‘New Reality’.

Kritika Kamra calls for action over hashtags in feminism debate: “It’s about actively pushing for gender equality and empowering women through our actions”

Kritika Kamra has consistently embraced bold choices across television, films, and digital platforms. With her upcoming project Saare Jahan Se Acha, recently announced as part of Netflix’s new slate, she continues to advocate for women-centric storytelling. In an industry still striving for meaningful female representation, Kritika emphasizes the responsibility of actresses to support narratives that go beyond surface-level feminism. She highlights the importance of backing projects that genuinely empower women, asserting that true feminism extends beyond social media hashtags and posts.

She said in an interview with Mid-Day, “Feminism is not something you post about on social media and leave at that. It’s about real-world action. Armchair feminism doesn’t work – you have to walk the talk. It’s not enough to share a post with a hashtag and call yourself a feminist. We need to constantly make the right choices in the roles we take, speak up for the right causes, and create spaces where women can thrive. It’s about actively pushing for gender equality and empowering women through our actions. This goes beyond just awareness; it’s about building foundations and initiating change. If you have the resources or platform, start something, create initiatives, and make real contributions to the empowerment of women. That’s what feminism really is – a lifelong commitment to equality, not just a trend.”

Kritika Kamra’s words come at a time when discussions on women’s rights and empowerment in the entertainment industry are gaining momentum. A longtime advocate for gender equality, she urges the industry to move beyond performative support for women. By calling out passive engagement with feminist ideals, she challenges both her peers and fans to take responsibility for fostering real change. Kritika emphasizes that for her, choosing roles isn’t just about screen time but about meaningful representation. She stated, “I want to be part of films and shows that don’t just claim to be feminist but actually put women at the forefront in a substantial way. For instance, my next Saare Jahan Se Acha and Matka King are stories that align with my belief in meaningful representation. The women in this film aren’t just accessories to a male protagonist – they drive the narrative, they have depth, and their journeys matter. That’s the kind of storytelling I want to champion.”

She further added, “Feminism in cinema isn’t just about loud messaging. It’s about making sure women aren’t just existing in a man’s story but are living, breathing, fully realized people with their own arcs, conflicts, and triumphs. That’s the change I want to contribute to. I am proud of the choices I’ve made because they reflect my values. I want to be part of narratives that challenge stereotypes, that allow women to be messy, complex, and real. That’s what makes a story truly progressive.”

EXCLUSIVE: From 50 screens to 1200 screens – producer Deepak Mukut reveals how STUNNED exhibitors increased Sanam Teri Kasam’s shows due to CRAZY demand from fans

Sanam Teri Kasam’s re-release has emerged as a historic success, shocking the trade and industry. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, producer Deepak Mukut spoke about how they decided to bring the classic love story back into cinemas.

EXCLUSIVE: From 50 screens to 1200 screens – producer Deepak Mukut reveals how STUNNED exhibitors increased Sanam Teri Kasam’s shows due to CRAZY demand from fans

Deepak Mukut began by saying, “I’d like to credit my actor Harshvardhan Rane. He pushed me to re-release Sanam Teri Kasam. Deep down, even I wanted to re-release the film. But at the same time, you do fear that what if the film gets the same fate as it did back in 2016? Hence, I was hoping and praying that this time, we would win. With that thought, we took the step and the rest is history (smiles).”

Deepak Mukut further said, “On February 3, I decided to re-release Sanam Teri Kasam on February 7. A lot of people told me to bring the film in an open week as it could get lost in the midst of so many other releases. At the same time, we knew that our film was tracking brilliantly on satellite. Even on YouTube, it has a huge viewership while its songs also continue to remain popular. Meanwhile, fans came from all over India, demanding its re-release. When I saw their josh and love, I knew that time was ripe for its re-release. Also, since it’s an apt movie for Valentine’s Day, we locked February 7, despite some people demotivating me for it.”

The challenges, however, remained. Deepak Mukut revealed, “On Tuesday, February 4, I spoke to programmers and exhibitors. They said they respect my decision to re-release Sanam Teri Kasam but also made it clear that they can’t give more than 50 screens to it! I agreed. As soon as they opened the advance booking, the tickets started selling like hot cakes in no time. Hence, they decided to add more shows. By the time it was Friday, February 7, the screen count had gone up to a whopping 1063! The demand was so huge that on Saturday, it was running in 1200 plus screens. Hence, it is heartening that our decision paid off and the audience showered so much love.”

Deepak Mukut signed off by stating that his film is an ideal film for February 14 saying, “I hope audiences watch Sanam Teri Kasam with their Valentine. This film is my gift to all the lovers on Valentine’s Day!”

Orry teams up with Tinder for a fun Valentine’s Day ‘Axe Your Ex’ breakup edit video; watch

On Valentine’s Day in India, Tinder, a popular dating app, is launching its Move On with Tinder campaign to support people after a breakup. Through various initiatives, collaborations, and interactive experiences, the campaign encourages new singles to move forward. Globally, Tinder is updating its Explore section with new tiles, making it easier for users to match based on intent. Categories like ‘Serious Dater,’ ‘Binge Watcher,’ or ‘New Friends’ help users connect through shared interests and relationship goals for a more tailored dating experience.

Tinder has released a video with influencer Orry for the ‘Axe Your Ex’ campaign. In this video, Orry asks people to send Tinder photos with their exes so they can be edited out—a symbolic gesture of moving on. Through this campaign, Tinder highlights the idea that letting go can be a positive step. With lines like “Don’t just be a liver, be a leaver!” and “They left you on read, but you deserve the red carpet!” Tinder focuses on self-growth and making room for new connections this February.

At the forefront of this campaign in India is Tinder’s collaboration with Blinkit, bringing an interactive Single Mode slider to the delivery app’s homepage. A click on the slider takes users to a dedicated ‘Moving On with Tinder’ page, featuring a step-by-step guide to healing and self-care. Whether it’s indulging in a ‘Have a Good Cry’ moment with tissues and chocolates, ‘Dumping Your Memories’ using scissors or lighters, changing your look with bold hair color and statement jewelry to ‘Shake Things Up,’ or stepping into your ‘Hot Bod’ era with gym equipment — each stage of the moving-on process is paired with Blinkit’s quick-delivery essentials. This collaboration encourages singles to take charge of their dating lives and navigate breakups with self-care.

Tinder transformed a zebra crossing in Mumbai into a Griebra Crossing, reflecting the stages of heartbreak on the streets. Featuring words like ‘Tanhaai,’ ‘Take Me Back,’ ‘Tantrums,’ and ‘Tears,’ this installation at Carter Road captured the emotional journey of moving on. The twist? As people stepped across the Griebra, they moved to the other side, symbolizing a fresh start. This activation highlighted how a single step forward can help leave the past behind.

Tinder hosted The Move On Game, a pickleball event in partnership with Rackonnect on February 9. The event brought people together for an energetic experience, reinforcing the idea of making clear choices on and off the court. It encouraged singles to try something new and provided a social space to meet like-minded individuals.

Tinder partnered with Gaysi Family to create an installation featuring testimonies from India’s queer community on handling heartbreak and moving forward. Part of Gaysi Family’s Opn Art House in Delhi on February 15-16, the installation allows visitors to read these stories and engage in activities like writing letters to exes and letting go of old feelings. Opn Art House will feature over 80 artists, showcasing artworks, workshops, experiences, a bazaar, live music, and more.

Anukool Kumar, Head of Marketing at Tinder in India, said, “Tinder has always been about embracing new possibilities, and our Move On campaign is all about making the next chapter exciting. Whether it’s teaming up with Blinkit and Gaysi Family, sharing a fun moment with Orry, or diving into interactive experiences like Pickleball and Griebra, we want to remind singles that moving on can be fun, empowering, and freeing. We’re also making it easier for singles to match with intention—globally, Tinder’s Explore section is expanding with new tiles like ‘Serious Dater,’ ‘Binge Watcher,’ and ‘New Friends’, helping people connect over shared interests and relationship goals. Our mission is simple: to give singles the freedom to date on their own terms—whether it’s something serious, casual, or just new connections.”

Through partnerships and interactive activities, Tinder’s Valentine’s Day campaign highlights moving on and forming new connections. To support users in their dating journey, the Tinder Dating Safety Guide is now available in four Indian languages.

Tejas Deoskar: Mahesh Manjrekar sir is a walking school of cinema

Having established himself as a successful and critically acclaimed filmmaker in the Marathi film industry, Tejas Prabha Vijay Deoskar made a remarkable debut in Hindi cinema with Chhatriwali (2023). The film was well-received by audiences, industry professionals, and critics alike. Now, the filmmaker is gearing up for his first release of 2025—Devmanus. The Marathi film features a stellar cast, including Mahesh Manjrekar, Renuka Shahane, Subodh Bhave and others.

Sharing his excitement about collaborating with Mahesh Manjrekar for the first time, Tejas expresses, “Mahesh Sir is not just an actor but also a writer, director, and producer. He understands the business of cinema and every aspect of filmmaking. Working with him has been an incredible learning opportunity. During his free time, we would discuss cinema and the creative process in depth. I call him ‘the walking school of cinema.’”

Deoskar added, “He once shared a particular insight that helped me save a lot of money during post-production, drawing from his own experiences. Beyond that, he provided invaluable guidance—whether in directing a film, managing actors, or recounting his experiences working with industry stalwarts like Nana Patekar sir and Salman Khan sir. From handling actors to persuading them to bring a director’s vision to life, I have learned so much from Mahesh sir.”

Reflecting on how Devmanus came to be, Tejas revealed, “When I narrated the script to him, he agreed to do it instantly. That was a huge moment for me because we have known each other for a long time. I used to play in his cricket team around 2008, and we shared some great moments on the field. He is a passionate cricket enthusiast, and his team included many young, creative minds from the industry. Although we had never worked together before, that bond was already there. Casting him in Devmanus was like fulfilling a bucket-list dream. We share the same passion for cricket and cinema, which made this collaboration even more special.”

Tejas has an exciting line-up of releases this year, starting with Devmanus, which is set to hit theatres on April 25, followed by Excel Entertainment’s Ground Zero, featuring Emraan Hashmi and Sai Tamhankar. With a career that seamlessly spans both Marathi and Hindi cinema, Tejas continues to tell impactful stories, leaving a significant mark in Indian filmmaking.

In reflecting on Rohit Bal’s influence on her personal style, Sonam Kapoor expressed her admiration for his designs. She stated, “Well, I love anarkali. I’ve worn that white anarkali many times and on multiple occasions. I’ve worn his clothes at milestone places, and I feel like he’s such an integral part of the way people look at fashion in India, so it’s influenced me and my style in a huge way.”

In her approach to selecting new projects, Sonam Kapoor emphasizes the importance of personal growth and meaningful collaborations.

“Anything that makes you grow as a human being, and I also like to work with people I like. If I don’t like somebody, then it’s very hard for me to work with them,” Sonam said, revealing that she is being very selective with her projects.

“100% being selective just means that I’m intentional about what I choose,” she ended.

Sanam Teri Kasam Box Office: Takes the lead in its re-release, is superb on Monday

Sanam Teri Kasam has taken an unassailable lead at the box office. The film is now a one-horse race as it’s the first choice of the audiences, and that too by a distance. It first surprised big time when it opened quite well on Friday. However, it was the trend over the weekend that made everyone stand up and notice. The Harshvardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane starrer collected better and better with every passing day that resulted in Rs. 15.50 crores* being netted.

This also gave a clear indication that Monday hold would be good and that’s what has happened as Rs. 3.25 crores* came in. That’s a superb hold indeed and by far the biggest ever Monday for a re-release. Going by the trends, it will now be the biggest re-release ever too as Tumbbad second run lifetime would be crossed in the second weekend itself.

So far, this Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru directed musical romantic drama has collected Rs. 18.75 crores* already and Rs. 27-28 crores will comfortably come in by close of first week. The real surprise could well come on second Friday, which also happens to be Valentine’s Day. For the youngsters in love, the film would be the first choice by a distance, and it may so happen that the collections on second Friday turn out to be the same (or even better) as the first Friday.

Hit.

*Estimates. Final numbers awaited

Note: All collections as per various box office sources
