Director S.S. Rajamouli has recently found himself at the centre of a controversy following a complaint filed against him by the Rashtriya Vanara Sena at the Saroonagar Police Station. The issue stems from remarks Rajamouli allegedly made about Lord Hanuman during the launch ceremony of his new movie Varanasi. The group claims that the director made rude comments which have wounded the sentiments of Hindus, expressing concern over the casual manner in which Hindu gods are referenced in the film industry.

According to the complaint, Rajamouli’s statements have significantly hurt the feelings of the Hindu community, prompting the Rashtriya Vanara Sena to ask police to take strict action. They insist that robust measures be taken to ensure similar incidents do not occur again, though, as of yet, the police have not taken any official steps regarding the complaint.
The controversy ignited during a challenging night for Team Varanasi at the GlobeTrotter event hosted at Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad. Despite meticulous planning and high anticipation, technical difficulties continually disrupted the team’s attempt to unveil the film’s first look, leaving Rajamouli visibly emotional and frustrated.
Addressing thousands of fans who had gathered from various locations, Rajamouli offered an apology. In Telugu, he shared his disappointment, referencing comments his father, writer Vijayendra Prasad, had made about Lord Hanuman’s blessings guiding the crew. The director candidly stated, “I don’t have a lot of faith in God.” He further explained, “My dad claimed Hanuman would show us the way. I got upset when the problems started. Is this how He helps me?” The speech was interrupted as Rajamouli paused to compose himself.
Rajamouli also emphasized his wife Rama’s devotion to Lord Hanuman, noting that she communicates with the deity like a close friend. He remarked, “Let’s see if my wife’s Hanuman helps us this time,” speaking in a voice that betrayed his vulnerability. Later that evening, just before another attempt to present the movie’s preview, he expressed, “If my father’s Hanuman saved us once, let’s see if my wife’s Hanuman can do it again.” These remarks have sparked significant debate on social media, with supporters applauding Rajamouli’s authenticity and critics demanding accountability.
At present, authorities have yet to issue an official statement or respond to the complaint, but the issue remains the subject of heated online discussion.
