Sara Ali Khan and Ayushmann Khurrana’s Udta Teer

Directed by Akash A. Kaushik, Udta Teer is described as a spy-comedy that combines action and humour. Ayushmann plays Bilal Ahmed, a Pakistani spy who travels to India for a mission. However, after an accident and explosion, he loses his memory and begins to believe that he is an Indian counter-terrorism officer.

The resulting identity mix-up forms the central premise of the film, as Bilal attempts to navigate his new belief about himself while being unaware of his actual identity. Sara plays Yamini, the female lead.

The film also features Rahul Bose, Ram Kapoor, Gulshan Grover, Suhail Nayyar, Raghubir Yadav, Brijendra Kala and Supriya Pilgaonkar. The cast also includes the late Mukul Dev in one of his final screen appearances.

Udta Teer is produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain under Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment.

The film has also been in the news after Nepal reportedly denied permission for its public screening. The decision was announced around October 19-20, with authorities citing provisions concerning content that could affect relations with friendly nations or national interests. The film’s India-Pakistan spy premise has been widely linked to the decision, although the Nepal release remains blocked.

Mika Singh DEFENDS Daler Mehndi amid Uttarakhand event controversy, reveals he had a big operation recently: “Have you ever seen a glass of alcohol in his hand”

Singer Mika Singh has come out in support of his brother and fellow singer Daler Mehndi following the controversy surrounding his performance at the Kunjapuri Mela in Uttarakhand. Calling the on-stage confrontation “disappointing”, Mika urged the media to verify allegations before publishing them as facts.

On October 20, Mika shared a video on social media along with a note wishing his followers on Dussehra. He also requested media organisations to check the facts and give artists an opportunity to present their side before reporting allegations.

Mika wrote, “The way Daler Mehndi was treated on stage was disappointing. A respected minister came on stage and made allegations about him drinking alcohol. But before publishing such claims, shouldn’t we verify the facts and give the artist a chance to present his side?” He also questioned whether a similar approach would be taken with an international act, writing, “Would anyone dare to behave like that with an international band like Coldplay?”

Mika says Daler Mehndi does not drink alcohol

In the video, Mika defended Daler against the allegation that he had been drinking during the performance. He said, “He has been a superstar for the last 30 years. Have you ever seen a glass of alcohol in his hand in your life?”

Mika added that Daler has been unwell and is recovering from a recent operation. “If he is not able to stand or he is not able to sing well, he was not feeling well. Because he had a big operation recently,” he said.

Mika further explained that artists sometimes honour professional commitments despite being unwell. “As much as I get sick, if I come to know that I have a show the day after tomorrow, and I have said yes, even if the budget was less or more, doesn’t matter. I have to be there,” he said.

What happened at Daler Mehndi’s Uttarakhand performance?

Daler Mehndi was performing at the annual Siddhpeeth Maa Kunjapuri Tourism and Development Fair in Tehri district on October 18 when Uttarakhand Cabinet Minister and local MLA Subodh Uniyal interrupted the performance.

In a video circulating online, Uniyal questioned Mehndi’s ability to sing and alleged that he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. The minister also questioned the performance in relation to the reported fee.

Mika acknowledged that the minister could question the quality of the performance but objected to the alcohol allegation without proof.

He said, “I agree sir, you are right, but don’t say that you are drinking and singing.”

Mika concluded by urging the media to be more careful with such claims, saying, “A headline can damage someone’s reputation, so please check the facts before publishing anything.”

Alongside them is Surpanakha, played by our very own Rakul, who has already delivered wonderful performances in several Telugu films and is now portraying Shurpanakha in the Ramayana. Rakul ji, welcome to Hyderabad!

“So, in this film, you’re playing the role of Surpanakha. For everyone familiar with the Ramayana, Surpanakha is a character whose actions significantly change the course of the entire story. Rakul ji, you’re playing such a powerful character.”

Aamir Khan meets Raj Thackeray as Imran Khan challenges leave India notice in Bombay High Court

Aamir Khan met Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray at his residence on Sunday, October 18, amid the ongoing legal battle involving Aamir’s nephew, actor Imran Khan, over a Leave India Notice directing him to leave the country by October 28. The purpose of the meeting was not immediately known.

Aamir and Raj have shared friendly relations over the years and have attended family functions hosted by each other. However, the actor’s latest visit comes at a time when Imran is challenging a notice issued by the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) on October 14. The matter is scheduled to come up for a hearing on Monday, October 19.

The notice reportedly alleges a violation of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025, in connection with Imran’s participation in a protest held in Mumbai on October 10. The demonstration called for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over allegations of irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise being conducted across the country.

Following the notice, Imran approached the Bombay High Court on Saturday, seeking its cancellation. The 44-year-old actor challenged the directive in his petition, describing it as “unconstitutional” and requesting that the court quash the notice.

He also sought an immediate stay on the directive while the court considers his plea. Additionally, Imran requested protection from coercive measures, including deportation, the issuance of a Look Out Circular (LOC), blacklisting and any action that could affect his Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) status.

In his petition, the actor alleged that the notice had been issued through a “non-bonafide” exercise of power. He further described the action as a “high-handed and grossly disproportionate abuse of power”.

The legal proceedings are currently underway as Imran seeks relief from the directive requiring him to leave India by October 28. The outcome of his plea before the Bombay High Court remains to be seen. Meanwhile, Aamir’s meeting with Raj Thackeray has drawn attention amid the developments surrounding his nephew’s case, although no official reason for the visit has been disclosed.

Jailer 2 becomes the FIRST South film to get midnight shows in North India in its original language; cinemas replace Nayyi Navelli, Prahaar with Rajinikanth starrer’s Hindi version

The year 2026 has been disappointing for Pan-India films, but Jailer 2 has emerged as a major exception. The Rajinikanth starrer opened with a bang and the extraordinary response has ensured that it continues to hold strongly across the country. In the North, the Tamil version has performed particularly well, with encouraging occupancy in single screens and non-national multiplexes despite the film not releasing in national multiplex chains in any language.

The response has been so overwhelming that MovieMax organised midnight shows of Jailer 2 at two of its properties – MovieMax Huma in Kanjurmarg, Mumbai, and MovieMax Gold in Kalyani Nagar, Pune. While shows after midnight have become increasingly common in the post-pandemic era, exhibition sources claim that Jailer 2 is the first South film to achieve this distinction in the North Indian market after its release, that too in its original language. Interestingly, midnight shows are usually held in weekends but MovieMax Gold will also play the 1:45 am show of Jailer 2 on Monday, October 19.

Meanwhile, the Hindi version, Rajini: The Jailer 2, is also enjoying an impressive run. The film collected Rs. 2.56 crores on Thursday, October 15, followed by Rs. 2.41 crores on Friday. Collections jumped to Rs. 3.63 crores on Saturday, while Sunday’s earnings are expected to touch the Rs. 4 crore mark. Though the numbers may appear modest, they are significant considering that the film hasn’t been released in national multiplex chains like PVR INOX, Cinepolis and Miraj. This is due to its four-week OTT window, as national chains generally insist on an eight-week gap between theatrical and streaming releases.

A trade source told Bollywood Hungama, “Initially, Rajini: The Jailer 2 had limited showcasing because of its absence from national chains. Moreover, it had to share screens with new releases like Prahaar and Nayyi Navelli, as well as the successful holdover release, Drishyam The Conclusion. However, the response to Jailer 2 has been superb, while Nayyi Navelli has failed to impress. Prahaar has excellent word of mouth, but unfortunately, it’s attracting the elite multiplex audience largely.”

The source continued, “The demand for Rajini: The Jailer 2 is huge. With Nayyi Navelli and Prahaar underperforming, several cinemas have started replacing their shows with those of the Rajinikanth starrer.”

Mumbai’s Citylight cinema, for instance, has dropped Nayyi Navelli, the Marathi film Sohla and even Drishyam The Conclusion from Monday, October 19. Instead, it will play two shows each of Prahaar and Rajini: The Jailer 2. The source explained, “Prahaar is a local story and has found an audience in Mumbai. Hence, it has managed to retain shows in certain theatres where its performance has been encouraging. However, in several centres, especially in North India, even Prahaar has lost shows to Jailer 2.”

The growing demand for Rajini: The Jailer 2 is also reflected in its rapidly expanding show count. On Thursday, the Hindi version had 1,730 shows across the country. This number nearly doubled to 3,266 on Friday before rising further to 3,690 on Saturday.

Interestingly, several cinemas have decided to devote almost their entire showcasing to Jailer 2. For instance, Maratha Mandir cinema will play three shows daily of the Hindi version, while Kasturba in Malad will also screen three Hindi shows along with one show of the Tamil version.

The source added, “Rajini: The Jailer 2 can now comfortably continue its theatrical run until Diwali. Rajinikanth’s previous release, Coolie (2025), collected Rs. 34 crores in its Hindi lifetime (it had a release in national chains). Jailer 2 should aim to surpass this figure, which will be a feat, especially considering that it will achieve these numbers without any support from national multiplexes.”

An industry insider commented, “Monday, October 19, will be almost like a holiday, while Dussehra will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 20. Rajini: The Jailer 2 can perform exceptionally well on both days. Dubbed action films have traditionally found a strong audience in Gujarat, but the territory is yet to come on board fully as patrons are currently occupied with Navratri celebrations. Expect collections to zoom in Gujarat from October 20 or 21.”

Kashmera Shah has started shooting her second directorial project in Greece. The yet-to-be-titled film is backed by Zee and is set to be released as a microdrama on Zee Bullet. The release date is yet to be announced.

Sharing an update on social media, Kashmera spoke about beginning a new chapter as an independent filmmaker and filming the project away from home.

“Starting this new chapter with my second directorial as an independent filmmaker feels exhilarating and honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way. I feel proud seeing my dream unfold. Do believe in dreams, they do come true. It happens when you open your eyes, step outside your comfort zone, and have faith,” she said.

Kashmera also explained why Greece was chosen as the setting for the project, describing the location as an important part of the story.

I’m currently re-reading The Last Queen. I also love Elif Shafak’s The Forty Rules of Love,” she shared.

When it comes to fashion, Sara appears to favour comfort and individuality over simply following what is trending. Asked to describe her style in three words, she chose “Comfy, traditional, and unique.”

Her answers to a quick fashion round further highlighted the same approach. While Balenciaga is her favourite fashion brand and Manish Malhotra is the designer she can rely on, Sara has a clear preference when it comes to everyday footwear and occasion dressing.

Yami Gautam dismisses reports of receiving a ‘big fat cheque’ for Dhurandhar The Revenge cameo: “Some things are priceless”

Yami Gautam has addressed reports claiming that she received a hefty payment for her special appearance in her husband Aditya Dhar’s film Dhurandhar The Revenge. The actor clarified that the opportunity to work under her husband’s direction was more valuable to her than any monetary compensation.

Yami, who is currently promoting her horror-comedy Nayyi Navelli, spoke about her cameo during an upcoming episode of Kon Honaar Crorepati, hosted by Madhuri Dixit. In a promotional video shared by the makers on Instagram, Madhuri mentioned that she had enjoyed watching Dhurandhar The Revenge before asking Yami about her brief appearance in the film. She also asked whether Yami had charged a fee for the role or agreed to be part of the project at her husband’s request.

Responding to the question, Yami dismissed reports suggesting that she had received a large cheque for her appearance. She explained that the experience of being directed by Aditya was special in itself. She said, “I read somewhere that I got a very big fat cheque for the cameo and I was like what is this? But I think some things are priceless. It was very sweet of Aditya to say, ‘Yami I want you to come in my film just for good luck.’ But it was so fun. To get directed by one of the finest directors was my fees.”

Madhuri also shared her appreciation for Yami’s appearance in the film, recalling the moment her identity was revealed on screen. “And it was fun to watch you in Dhurandhar The Revenge, when she turns and we see it’s Yami, it was fun to watch,” the actress said.

Yami Gautam’s role in Dhurandhar: The Revenge

Directed by Aditya Dhar, Dhurandhar The Revenge is the sequel to the 2025 action thriller Dhurandhar. Yami makes a brief appearance as Shazia Bano, a nurse who is revealed to be an undercover Indian agent operating in Pakistan.

The film stars Ranveer Singh alongside Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, Rakesh Bedi, Danish Pandor and Sara Arjun, among others. Its story follows Jaskirat Singh Rangi aka Hamza as he navigates criminal networks and political power struggles while pursuing targets linked to terrorist attacks against India.

Meanwhile, Yami’s latest film, Nayyi Navelli, was released in theatres on October 16. Directed by Balaji Mohan, the horror-comedy is backed by Amazon MGM Studios and Colour Yellow Productions. The film also features Adinath Kothare, Mita Vashisht, Sonal Jha and Sunita Rajwar.

Kirti Kulhari’s production debut Kinaare to premiere at Dharamshala International Film Festival

Acclaimed actor Kirti Kulhari is all set for a career milestone as she takes her maiden feature production, Kinaare, to the upcoming edition of the Dharamshala International Film Festival (DIFF).

Written and directed by the Qadri brothers (Akbar & Azam Qadri), Kinaare will premiere at DIFF and it marks a deeply personal chapter for Kulhari as she steps into the role of a producer. She has backed the feature under her banner Kintsukuroi Films along with co-producers Abhishek Koka and Maansi Guptey.

Led by an ensemble principal cast featuring Kulhari alongside Rajeev Siddhartha, Alka Amin, and Ravi Taneja, the film promises an intimate, lingering cinematic experience.

Set against the backdrop of a village near Delhi, Kinaare follows Amina (played by Kulhari), a single woman whose life is devoted to caring for her aging parents and tending to her home. Her routine is upended by a surprise visit from her cousin brother (Azam) after 15 years—unearthing a past that once fractured the family. Catching up on lost years—and love—the visit leaves her more at peace with the past and acceptance of the present.

Reflecting on the creative energy that went into shaping the project, lead actor and producer Kulhari shared, “Kinaare is a film that happens to be my first child as a producer, and that will always remain special. It’s a script that really resonated with me. It’s a simple, heartwarming, and subtle film. I find all these adjectives in Iranian films—which I’ve always really loved—so when something like this came to me, I knew I had to make it.”

Kulhari, who comes armed with more than a decade of a stellar acting career, said producing is not an easy task, especially if one’s trying to make a film themselves.

“This is exactly how I wanted to make this film: independently, make it the way I see it, the way we all see it collectively. It’s amazing that each and every member of the film has come together, believing in the script, and stood by my side purely for the passion of cinema, for the sole reason of being a part of the film for what it is. So, I’m very proud and happy to have brought something like Kinaare for the world to see.”

Echoing this sentiment, co-star Rajeev Siddhartha opened up about the rare rhythm of the script and the immersive environment on set.

“I feel every actor looks forward to and hopes that they come across a script where not only is the written word important, but also the script itself encourages you to explore the spaces between the words. And with Kinaare, I got to do that as an actor. I feel Kinaare has such a universal theme that everybody who sees it will definitely be touched, be moved and be slightly changed from within after the experience.”

Rounding out the film’s artistic vision are cinematographer Arjun Sundaram, music composer Mohan Kannan, editor Bakul Matiyani, and sound designer Sanjay Chaturvedi.
