Telly couple Kunal Verma and Puja Banerjee open up about financial scam by trusted friend; say, “We have to start from zero, and we won’t give up”

Popular television couple Kunal Verma and Puja Banerjee recently revealed they were victims of a devastating financial scam. In an emotional interview with ETimes, the duo shared that they were betrayed by someone they considered family—a close friend who left them financially broken.

Telly couple Kunal Verma and Puja Banerjee open up about financial scam by trusted friend; say, “We have to start from zero, and we won't give up”

“These past 2-3 months have been extremely difficult for us, and we have no idea what will happen next. We have been victims of a fraudulent financial scam, and we lost a huge amount. We have to start from zero, and we won’t give up. We don’t want to give up. We lost all our savings in this fraud… Humein wapis zero pe laake khada kar diya hai,” said Puja, adding that the betrayal has taken a heavy emotional toll on them.

Kunal Verma, echoing her emotions, said, “When you trust someone for the past 3 years… Has been with you, became a part of your home and family…” To this, Puja added, “We are deeply hurt, but we don’t want to give up at this point and come out stronger.”

The couple, who welcomed their son Krishiv in October 2020, expressed that it was incredibly painful to disclose this ordeal publicly. “We have cried enough behind it and these past months were extremely shattering. All we want is support. It was impossible for us to share it with our family but now with this video they will come to know. It feels terrible to share such news with them. All our lives we have worked hard and earned.”

In a heartfelt plea to their fans and well-wishers, Puja asked for support and prayers. “We shall keep updating you all but pray that we get the amount that we lost back. We know it’s a long battle but we will fight it together.”

Kunal Verma and Puja Banerjee, who first met on the sets of Tujh Sang Preet Lagai Sajna in 2008, tied the knot in a court ceremony in April 2020 during the pandemic. They later celebrated with a traditional wedding in November 2021, with their son Krishiv also in attendance.

Despite this personal and financial setback, the couple remains determined to rebuild their lives.

Muzaffar Ali opens up Umrao Jaan re- releasing after three decades; says, “It is a timeless film in every way ahead of it’s time. The enduring performance of Rekha is matchless”

Muzaffar Ali’s classic film Umrao Jaan is set to return to theatres on June 27, 2025, after a long absence. The director shares his thoughts on what makes the film enduringly relevant.

Muzaffar Ali opens up Umrao Jaan re- releasing after three decades; says, “It is a timeless film in every way ahead of it’s time. The enduring performance of Rekha is matchless”

“There is an uncanny continuity in carrying forward the essence of my Umrao Jaan. Almost three generations have revered this as an heirloom and legacy of their emotional evolution. It will be a two fold experience. Watching their grandparents sensibility and their very own discovery. It is a timeless film in every way ahead of time.”

Speaking about its enduring relevance, he adds, “It is passion, rootedness and care for detail. It is not just an identity of a place or culture but the identity of womanhood. The enduring performance of Rekha is matchless. One of the greatest roles an actress brings to life and leaves it to her audience to live their lives through it.”

The re-release not only celebrates the cinematic gem that Umrao Jaan is, but invites today’s audience to discover — or rediscover — a story of grace, strength and identity that continues to remain as powerful and poetic as ever.

Muzaffar Ali’s Umrao Jaan (1981) and the House of Kotwara — both rooted in the timeless grace of the Awadhi culture.

Ribhu Dasgupta on 9 years of Te3n, “The love the film still gets is really something special”

Filmmaker Ribhu Dasgupta’s highly appreciated Te3n completed nine years today. The film was a mystery drama and it had an interesting cast of Amitabh Bachchan, Vidya Balan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Dasgupta looks back at the film in an interview with us.

Ribhu Sengupta on 9 years of Te3n, “The love the film still gets is really something special”

How do you feel about your film starring Amitabh Bachchan, Vidya Balan and Nawazuddin turning 9?

I can’t believe Te3n is 9 years old. The love the film still gets is really something special, especially for Mr. Bachchan’s extraordinary performance … the way he portrayed a common man from north Kolkata fighting for justice was the highlight of the film.

Mr Bachchan feels the film is still important for him

The way he slid, blended into the character of John Biswas, breaking his tall image of ‘angry young man’ of so many years has to be the distinct diverseness in his acting prowess. The film was about detailing and his character, his performance detailed out every small nuisance of the struggle in the story making it emotional and gritty. It was like a masterclass.

The other leads were also effective

With Vidya and Nawaz together, I had landed a casting coup kind of a situation. Incredibly talented star performers of their own genre … A great combination of talent and good humans… A lot of credit also goes to Sujoy (Ghosh) for believing in the film and producing it.

If you made Te3n now, what would you change?

I don’t know exactly what I would change on paper. Creatively if I had to make it again today, but maybe I would make the narrative a bit more brisk.

What next?

I have finished shooting my film with Mr. Bachchan, it is called Section 84 IPC. We are in the last leg of post-production and VFX. Then set a plan for the release. Other than that, currently I am developing a couple of scripts, which I would like to direct but there is this one script which I would like to (only) produce end of the year or early next year.

Ektaa Kapoor claps back at Anurag Kashyap’s “Saas-Bahu” comment; calls it “classist”, urges self-awareness among artists

Producer and TV mogul Ektaa Kapoor has responded sharply to filmmaker Anurag Kashyap over his recent comments dismissing the relevance of ‘saas-bahu’ dramas. Kapoor, who has been the face of Indian daily soaps for over two decades, didn’t hold back in calling out the acclaimed director for being “classist” and lacking grace.

Ektaa Kapoor claps back at Anurag Kashyap’s “Saas-Bahu” comment; calls it “classist”, urges self-awareness among artists

Where It All Began

The controversy traces back to a recent interview featuring Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos on Nikhil Kamath’s podcast, where Sarandos reflected on the platform’s India launch with Sacred Games — the gritty, critically acclaimed crime thriller co-directed by Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane. Sarandos referred to the move as possibly a “mistake”, suggesting a “more populist” show might have worked better in the early days.

Kashyap, who was pivotal in shaping Netflix India’s first original, took to Instagram to vent his frustration. Sharing a headline that quoted Sarandos’ comments, the Gangs of Wasseypur director sarcastically wrote, “He should have started with Saas Bahu… he would have done well. Which he is doing now.” He then went a step further and called the Netflix CEO “the definition of dumb,” criticizing tech executives for not understanding storytelling.

Ektaa’s Explosive Response

Kapoor, known for iconic shows like Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii, didn’t take kindly to the implication. In a fiery Instagram Story, she slammed Kashyap’s tone and approach, writing: “Ur so dumb… saying this put u on an advantage ‘I’m smarter cooler’ but naaaaaaaa! Darling how about gracious!!! N self aware?????? An art a lot of artists don’t have! ‘Saas bahu’ n their impact on Indian masses (how women got a voice in mass India) is well documented by a prestigious Chicago research! But artists who talk of an inclusive world are actually more classist.”

Interestingly, Netflix has recently partnered with Ektaa Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms, a move that perhaps underscores the very shift Kashyap was referencing, the platform’s pivot towards more accessible, drama-driven narratives.

Anurag Kashyap REACTS strongly to Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos’ Sacred Games remarks: “Tech guys are dumb when it comes to storytelling”

Veteran filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has hit out at Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos following the latter’s recent comments regarding the streaming platform’s launch strategy in India, specifically its decision to lead with Kashyap’s critically acclaimed series Sacred Games.

Anurag Kashyap REACTS strongly to Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos’ Sacred Games remarks: “Tech guys are dumb when it comes to storytelling”

In a recent appearance on Nikhil Kamath’s podcast, Sarandos reflected on Netflix’s early India strategy and hinted that Sacred Games might not have been the most commercially viable choice. “For me, if I did it all over again, would I have done Sacred Games a couple of years later, and did things that were more populist instead? Maybe,” Sarandos said, suggesting that the streamer might have gained faster traction with mass-appeal content.

The remark didn’t sit well with Kashyap, who co-directed Sacred Games — India’s first Netflix original series — alongside Vikramaditya Motwane. The gritty crime thriller, starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Saif Ali Khan, was widely hailed as a game-changer for Indian OTT content when it premiered in 2018.

Kashyap responded by posting a screenshot of a report summarizing Sarandos’ comments on Instagram, along with a scathing caption: “He should have started with Saas Bahu… he would have done well. Which he is doing now. I always knew the tech guys are dumb when it comes to storytelling but @tedsarandos is the definition of dumb is what I didn’t know. Good to discover that. This explains everything now.”

The “Saas Bahu” reference appears to be a swipe at Netflix India’s newly announced collaboration with Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms, known for its long-running soap operas like Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi — a genre that dominated Indian television in the 2000s.

While Sarandos had clarified that India was always going to be a “slower journey” for Netflix due to its complex media landscape, his remark has reignited the ongoing debate about creative risks vs. commercial viability in India’s streaming ecosystem.

Actor Lisa Mishra, who recently appeared in Netflix India’s The Royals, chimed in on Kashyap’s post, writing: “Everything in OTT is derivative now anyways, and specifically derivative of Sacred Games.

Kamal Haasan reacts to Hindi imposition row amid Tamil vs Kannada controversy

Amid the ongoing controversy around his recent remark on Tamil’s linguistic supremacy over Kannada, veteran actor Kamal Haasan has now stirred another significant conversation — this time addressing the long-debated issue of Hindi imposition in Southern states. Speaking to PTI, the actor-politician weighed in on the importance of linguistic freedom and inclusivity, especially in educational and employment contexts.

Kamal Haasan reacts to Hindi imposition row amid Tamil vs Kannada controversy

Haasan’s statement comes at a time when his upcoming film Thug Life has reportedly been barred from releasing in Kannada following his earlier remarks. However, the actor did not hold back in addressing broader national concerns around language politics and imposition. “Without imposition, we will learn. Don’t impose, because this is ultimately education and we must take the shortest route to education… and not put hurdles in its way,” said Haasan, stressing that learning languages should be organic and never forced. He further expressed solidarity with other states that have historically resisted Hindi imposition. “I stand with Punjab. I stand with Karnataka. I stand with Andhra. This is not only place which is resenting imposition,” he shared.

Drawing attention to the practicality of English in modern India, Kamal Haasan highlighted how the country’s historical engagement with the language has helped establish it as a neutral medium of communication and education. “And English seems to be fair enough. You can do Spanish also, or Chinese. But I think the most practical thing where the shortest route to that is that we have 350 years of English education, slowly but steadily. So when you suddenly replace it, it’s all over again. You make unnecessarily many people illiterate, especially in Tamil Nadu,” he stated.

He went on to add, “You suddenly force all through Hindi and you tell them that you will not get your job beyond the Vindhyas, then you start wondering, what about the promises? What about my language? Am I not one of the 22 (official languages)? These are the questions that are coming.”

The Indian 2 actor’s comments have added fresh fuel to the ongoing national debate around language politics, even as Thug Life finds itself entangled in regional tensions. Whether his statement helps build bridges or adds to the friction remains to be seen, but Kamal Haasan has made his stance clear — one that calls for linguistic respect, choice, and practicality over force.

Ridhi Dogra reflects on her journey from corporate life to the camera; says, “I wanted to be my own boss”

Before Ridhi Dogra became one of the most compelling actors in Indian entertainment, she lived a life familiar to many—one of deadlines, timecards, early morning trains, and Monday meetings. But behind the spreadsheets and structured schedules was a woman yearning for creative freedom. Today, Dogra stands as a powerful presence on screen, known for her emotionally grounded performances and unmistakable authenticity, especially in the world of OTT content.

Ridhi Dogra reflects on her journey from corporate life to the camera; says, "I wanted to be my own boss"

With standout roles in The Married Woman, Asur, Badtameez Dil, Lakadbaggha, Kull: The Legacy of the Raisingghs, and the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Jawan, Ridhi has built a career that reflects her evolution not only as an artist but as a woman with a strong sense of self.

In a recent interview, Dogra offered a rare and honest glimpse into her pre-acting life. She recalled her time in the corporate world—what many might call the ‘struggle years’—though she herself disagrees with that label.

“I haven’t really struggled. I feel like destiny led me to become an actor. I never set out to be one. Of course, I was always expressive, dramatic, and a dancer, which made it easy to face the camera. And, as luck would have it, I worked at a television channel where I saw it all, camera operators, lights, the entire setup, so it didn’t overwhelm me. All that was left was to step in front of the camera and do my job. I think it was a personal choice too. Having studied a bit and experienced the world, not the acting world, but in real life, I’ve lived that office life. Taking the train, reaching office by 9, punching in, attending Monday morning meetings, I’ve done it all. And I don’t call that a struggle. That’s just life.”

Her transition into acting was not born of dissatisfaction alone but from a deeper desire to break free from conformity—particularly the gendered expectations of the corporate world.

“To be honest, I left because I wanted to be my own boss. There were so many things I noticed back then. It wasn’t just that I was a woman, I also had to dress a certain way. My shirt buttons had to be like this; my pants couldn’t be too tight. Meanwhile, the men just came and went as they pleased. That’s when it really hit me how much more a woman has to think about. She has to put in ten times the effort for even the smallest things. So, for me, the real challenge wasn’t entering the industry but choosing roles that, if I were still that office-going girl, I would want to watch.”

Dogra’s choices reflect her refusal to conform, both in her performances and her public persona. She brings a lived-in truth to every role—whether it’s a conflicted lover, a sharp investigator, or a woman confronting her inner fears—and she does so without relying on theatrics. Her power lies in subtlety.

Ridhi Dogra’s journey, from corporate cubicles to commanding screen space, is not just about career evolution. It is about reclaiming voice, agency, and the right to be seen on her own terms. And in doing so, she has become not just a performer, but a figure of quiet empowerment for a generation of women navigating their own versions of life before fame.

EXCLUSIVE: Sameeksha Takke explains how she got the nickname ‘Atrangi Womaniya’; opens up on working in Chakda Xpress: “I just wanted to be in the same space, BREATHE the same air as Anushka Sharma; she’s truly an AURA”; BREAKS silence on its impending release

The fans of Cricket and IPL must surely be aware of Sameeksha Takke aka Atrangi Womaniya. The 28-year-old content creator wears her love for Mumbai Indians proudly on her sleeve. Interestingly, she has also been a sportsperson and dabbled in professional cricket for over a decade while also playing softball and baseball at a national level. Sadly, a debilitating ankle injury forced her to discontinue her cricket career and explore a white-collar job as a banker. In 2012, her journey as a social media influencer took off and it got a bigger boost during the pandemic. Her love for Mumbai Indians helped her bag the opportunity to host the cricket team’s talk show MI Live. In 2022, she was signed for an important role in Chakda Xpress, a biopic on fast bowler Jhulan Goswami, starring Anushka Sharma.

EXCLUSIVE: Sameeksha Takke explains how she got the nickname 'Atrangi Womaniya'; opens up on working in Chakda Xpress: "I just wanted to be in the same space, BREATHE the same air as Anushka Sharma; she's truly an AURA"; BREAKS silence on its impending release

In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Sameeksha Takke spoke about her journey, how she earned the title ‘Atrangi Womaniya’, Chakda Xpress and a lot more (Note: This interview took place before Mumbai Indians were eliminated from IPL 2025. Interestingly, her hope for Virat Kohli to finally lift the trophy did materialize, lending this exchange a touch of prophetic timing).

Being an MI fan, I have to ask you at the very onset – with the way the team has bounced back after a tepid start – do you feel they’ll lift the cup this time?
Being a die-hard MI fan, of course, I want us to lift the cup this time. Har season ki tarah, my loyalty is unshakable. The way the team bounced back after a slow start truly reflects the MI spirit – calm, composed, and clutch when it matters. But I’ll be real – if MI doesn’t make it to the finals, my heart will go out to RCB. I mean… 18 years? And Virat Kohli deserves to lift that trophy at least once. People might say, ‘Oh she’s not a true MI supporter’! However, I’m a cricket fan first. I’ve grown up watching and admiring the game, and sometimes your heart has space for more than one team. But make no mistake: MI vs RCB? I’m going blue all the way. RCB vs PBKS? I’m rooting for the team that’s waited almost two decades. That’s the beauty of sport – loyalty with empathy.

Your content is funny, sweet, relatable and is never vulgar. Was that a conscious decision on your part from the time you began content creation?
Before being a content creator, I’m a responsible human being. From the very beginning, I knew the kind of content I wanted to put out – funny, relatable and clean. My audience ranges from 12 to even 70+ and I’ve had people in their 60s and 70s run up to me saying, ‘Deedee, we love your content’! That means the world to me and I would never want to let them down. A lot of this comes from my upbringing. My mom has always taught me to choose the right path and use my voice to make a difference. Every time I plan a piece of content, I still run it by her. Content creation, for me, has never been just about views or numbers; it’s about creating something meaningful that brings joy and leaves a mark. Know your boundaries. Stay true to your voice. Make people smile without crossing lines!

Now, it’s common to see a lot of females who are cricket fanatics. But while growing up, did you face criticism over your passion for cricket?
I honestly don’t remember facing any criticism not because it didn’t exist, but because I never gave it the importance. Kiran Sir and Praful Sir shaped me both on and off the field while my dad always made sure I understood the deeper essence of the game. If I had wasted time entertaining every opinion thrown at me, I wouldn’t have played cricket; as simple as that.

You are a part of Chakda Xpress. How did you bag the film and which real-life player do you play?
I remember giving an audition for MCC. It was for a fictional character inspired by Indian cricketers Rajeshwari Gayakwad and Shikha Pandey. Since I’ve played cricket professionally, I got this opportunity through one of my cricket friends; actually, her mom was helping with casting extras at the time. It was such a fun and surreal experience to blend my love for cricket with a bit of acting. Life really does throw some beautiful surprises your way when you least expect it!

How was it working with Anushka Sharma? Can you also share any memorable anecdotes from the sets?
She’s truly an aura! I still remember working with her back in 2022. There was this one scene where we had to cut a cake, and as tradition goes, we had to smear it on everyone’s faces. Me, Anushka, and the rest of the girls made a full-on plan to target our director, Prosit Roy, and I kid you not, we ended up chasing him for a good 50 to 100 meters! So many fun memories from that shoot, but this one tops the list – pure chaos, pure joy!

What was the prep like for the film and how much time did it take for it?
Honestly, it wasn’t some big, life-changing role. I was just another cricketer on set. I was not exactly an extra either, because I did audition for a specific part. But if I’m being real, I said yes because I’m a massive fan of Anushka Sharma. I just wanted to be in the same space, breathe the same air and quietly soak in her aura. And I’m so glad I did because even being a small part of something this special felt surreal.

A lot of people have been waiting for Chakda Xpress for a long time. Any reason for its delay and when can we expect it to be out?
We’ve all seen first-hand how much heart, sweat and hard work went into this film, from every single person involved. I know I’m just a small part of it, and maybe it’s not my place to say much but I truly hope the world gets to witness the magic that was created on set. The film is still on the shelf for now, but fingers crossed that it sees the light of day soon. It deserves to.

When did you get the tag ‘Atrangi Womaniya’?
Well, this is funny. I actually started my content journey through a WordPress blog. It was a time when I was juggling a part-time job and some side hustles. I was doing portrait shoots for my photographer friends, who, by the way, are now way too professional to call me for test shots anymore (laughs). One of my colleagues introduced me to WordPress. We had to name the blog something unique. I wanted it to be Hindi + English… and I was obsessed with the song ‘Womaniya’ at that time. But then came the real task – finding the first word. And honestly, considering the kaands and tantrums I’ve pulled off all my life, my whole family had already blessed me with the title, ‘Atrangi’. That’s how the blog was born as ‘Atrangi Womaniya’, because drama toh DNA mein hai (laughs).

How do your parents react to your fame and popularity?
Fame and popularity have never really gotten to my head but I’d be lying if I said they don’t warm my heart. Especially when I see how happy it makes my parents. They’re extremely protective by nature, so whether it’s a match or an event where people recognise me or ask for photos, they light up in their own quiet way. They’ve always told me, ‘Keep your feet on the ground. You’ve got so much more to achieve’. And that one sentence keeps me anchored, no matter what.

I’m forever grateful. Because for me, fame isn’t about attention; it’s proof that my efforts are being seen. My hard work is being noticed. And that feeling? I truly love it (smiles).

Bollywood Hungama Style Icons Summit and Awards 2025: Vidya Balan gets “cheeky” and recalls someone asking her state of mind after shooting The Dirty Picture; says, “I said, ‘I had just met Siddharth. Go figure!’”

At the recently held Bollywood Hungama Style Icons Summit and Awards 2025, Vidya Balan’s masterclass titled The 20 Glorious Years of ‘Shero’ Vidya Balan!” offered a perfect blend of grace, wisdom, and cheeky charm. Reflecting on her two-decade journey in films, Vidya opened up about how she navigates the delicate task of turning down projects—and the clarity that guides her current choices.

Responding to a question about how she says no sincerely without hurting anyone’s sentiments, Vidya said, “On the face of it, they definitely take it better because they’re putting in so much time, effort, and passion into it. It’s never easy to hear no. And being married to a producer, I know that better than I did before.”

She added that over the years, she has found a way to be honest without being unkind. “I’d like to believe I’m not a rude person, so I say it like it is. But I’m aware of the fact that you put in so much effort, and I value that you brought it to me—it’s just not working for me.”

The actress also offered a delightful insight into her current mindset and evolving creative preferences. Citing a memorable remark from author Shobhaa De, Vidya recalled, “She said, ‘You’re Capricorn? Wow! Now, at this freer stage of her life and career, Vidya confessed she’s more drawn to comedy and lighter narratives. “These days, I find myself saying, ‘Fabulous script—but maybe two, three, four years ago, I would’ve done it in a heartbeat. Not now.’ And some people can’t understand that, but I’m very clear. I don’t want to kill anyone. I don’t want to see blood and gore. I just want to have fun.”

Aamir Khan advises youngsters to go for therapy as soon as possible: “We are trained to be actors, engineers, doctors, etc. No one trains us how to be a samajdar adult. That can be done with therapy; I wish I had started therapy at 18”

Aamir Khan is a one-of-a-kind superstar. One can ask him any question and he’ll surely answer it truthfully and in detail, without mincing awards. A group of journalists got a chance to see that first-hand when during a group interaction held as part of the promotions of Sitaare Zameen Par.

Aamir Khan advises youngsters to go for therapy as soon as possible: “We are trained to be actors, engineers, doctors, etc. No one trains us how to be a samajdar adult. That can be done with therapy; I wish I had started therapy at 18”

Aamir Khan was asked to give advice to youngsters on relationships. The star replied, “Who am I to give advice? I have not been particularly successful in my own relationships! Aap galat aadmi se advice poochh rahen hain.”

The journalist pointed out that he was indeed the right person as he has been friends with his ex-wives, Reena Dutta and Kiran Rao. Aamir confessed, “That’s true. I have been remarkably successful. Despite divorce, my relationship is not broken.”

He then gave a valuable suggestion, “Some years ago, I began therapy. It has benefited me a lot. Until then, I used to think that people didn’t understand me. Everyone thinks ki main kya galat kar raha hoon; main toh sahi kar raha hoon. When you begin therapy, you realize that your happiness is only in your hands. It is not in anybody’s hands and that shouldn’t be the case either. When you decide to get into a relationship with someone, it is a very important decision. If you chose the wrong partner, you are bound to get upset.”

He added, “Thanks to therapy, I understood the idea of red flags. Until then, I didn’t know what is red flags (laughs)! Now, I realize, ‘Achhaa, this is a red flag’. After 3 years of therapy, if I meet a beautiful girl, I’ll talk to her for 2 minutes and then I realize ‘Yeh hai toh badi khoobsurat lekin red flag mere ko 15-20 dikh rahe hai yahan. Toh boriya bistra baandho aur niklo yahan se’ (laughs).”

Aamir Khan confessed, “For a healthy relationship to be successful, it’s important to be truthful. Secondly, think before you choose someone as your partner. I wish I had started therapy at the age of 18. If I had, then I would have known at the age of 18 about my faults. Therapy never tells you about the other person. Therapy tells you about yourself. You understand where you have gone wrong.”

He continued, “My advice to youngsters would be that start therapy as soon as possible. It’ll help you understand about adult life, relationships and your career, that too at an early age. It’ll stop you from committing mistakes left-right-centre. Fir aap soch samaj ke galtiyan karoge (laughs). Therapy will help you have potentially better relationships. It will also help you maybe realize that you don’t need a partner.”

Aamir Khan exulted, “Relationships should be given a lot of value. That is all that is there in this life. Hence, your relationships should be healthy. It should give support and meaning to your life. That’s what relationships are meant to do. I feel that we don’t get training to be adults. We are trained to be actors, engineers, doctors, etc. No one trains us how to be a samajdar adult. That can be done with good therapy.”

He ended his answer by remarking, “It’s a separate discussion, however, that there aren’t enough therapists in our country.”

Manoj Bajpayee on 15 years of Raajneeti, “It will always be a very important milestone in my career”

Filmmaker Prakash Jha’s multi-starrer Raajneeti completed 15 years yesterday. Starring Ranbir Kapoor, Manoj Bajpayee, Ajay Devgn, Katrina Kaif, Arjun Rampal, Nana Patekar, among others, the film was a political drama inspired from the epic Mahabharata. On the film’s 15th anniversary, Bajpayee looks back at it in an interview with us.

Manoj Bajpayee on 15 years of Raajneeti, "It will always be a very important milestone in my career"

Manoj, Raajneeti was a turning point for your career
It was fifteen years back, you know, I was also not getting the kind of script I wanted to do. It was very hard for six, seven years for me to find the right roles. Prakash ji had promised me a role in the modern adaptation of Mahabharata that he had in his mind. And he happened to be offering me a role in this. I still remember him telling me that you can go ahead and choose any one of these two parts. And I chose Veerendra Pratap Singh, which was based on Duryodhana.

Which was the other role Prakash offered you?
It is never correct to talk about the roles one hasn’t done. I had such a great time playing my character. Somewhere, I realized that I wanted to keep the larger than life aspect to Duryodhana, because it was coming from mythology. So, I wanted to keep that aspect of the mythology. And also wanted to make it a little more real. So, I was trying to strike a balance between both real and somebody, who is much bigger in his persona than anyone else.

That must have been tough
Yeah, it was a hard job to strike that. Some of my co-actors really thought that I’m pitching it a little too high. But they were not getting my mind-set. They were not part of that preparation. But I’m so happy that eventually it all worked.

Prakash Jha knew what you were doing?
There was only one person who was completely with me all the way and that was Prakash ji. He could really see what I was trying to do with my performance. He could really see it very, very clearly, what I was trying to do with the character of Veerendra Pratap Singh. And he was very appreciative of the fact.

How did you get along with the rest of the vast cast?
Somehow, one of my best co-actors who happened to be Ajay Devgn, was always there very silently, prodding me, appreciating each and every shot that I was giving. He was there to support. But he’s a quiet person. He’s a very silent person. This is a quality I liked about him. And then eventually you realize that, you know, this is the way a co-actor should be, prodding, appreciating, very silently encouraging at the same time helping you to experiment and explore.

Raajneeti remains a memorable experience?
The entire experience of shooting for the film was one of the best I’ve had. And also Prakash ji being the master of coordination of all the junior artists, who he had from the local theatres and all the villages from nearby in Madhya Pradesh. The way he handled the actors, the main actors and the secondary actors, the significant actors and also the juniors was really, really something mind-boggling, I would say.

Prakash is a master of mob direction
If anybody really wants to know how to direct a crowd of actors, they should really take a masterclass from Mr. Prakash Jha. Raajneeti will always be a very, very important milestone in my career. And I will always be very, very thankful to Mr. Prakash for this.

Aamir Khan opens up on what went wrong with The Godfather’s attempted remake Aatank Hi Aatank: “I was so DISHONEST in that film jiski koi hadd hi nahin hai; in such heat, my character was wearing a three-piece suit…I wonder why”

During a group interaction held as part of the promotions of Sitaare Zameen Par, Aamir Khan was asked to comment on Aatank Hi Aatank (1995). It co-starred Rajinikanth and was an unofficial remake of The Godfather (1972). Aamir Khan, being a genuine and truthful star, opened up on what went wrong with this film.

Aamir Khan opens up on what went wrong with The Godfather’s attempted remake Aatank Hi Aatank: “I was so DISHONEST in that film jiski koi hadd hi nahin hai; in such heat, my character was wearing a three-piece suit…I wonder why”

Aamir Khan clarified by saying, “It was an attempted remake of The Godfather, in which we failed miserably. Let me say that!”

He added, “I was very immature at that time. While it was an attempt to remake The Godfather, I don’t think we succeeded very well. That film taught me a lot. While shooting it, I had slick back hair. I used to smoke (Godfather-style) cigarettes and I used to wear a three-piece suit. When I saw the film, I realized that I was so dishonest jiski koi hadd hi nahin hai!”

He continued, “Firstly, the Italians like a slick back hairstyle. Hum log thodi karte hai slick back? So, the look was completely non-Indian. Secondly, the character was wearing a three-piece suit, that too in such heat. Why? In this kind of weather, the character should have worn something that suits our climate. Just because he’s a gangster, it doesn’t mean he had to wear a three-piece suit. The Godfather character wore that clothing as it was cold in their area. Humko toh pyjame-kurte mein ghoomna chahiye. My clothes can’t decide my actions.”

Aamir Khan further stated, “I realized all this. Sab fake cheezein thi film mein. It was dishonest. The Godfather is a great story and even today, it can be attempted, but only after taking the rights (laughs). But you need to adapt it (sensibly). If you make a frame-to-frame copy, it’ll be a disaster. You need to remake it by smoothly blending it into your cultural context. Only then will the audience appreciate it. Or else, they won’t.”

Amitabh Bachchan on Nutan on her 89th anniversary, “Every shot with her in Saudagar is etched in my memory”

It’s the 89th birth anniversary of the legendary actress Nutan. She starred in a number of iconic films during her time, including Milan, Saudagar, Manzil, Saraswatichandra, to name a few.

Amitabh Bachchan, who did one of his most memorable roles early in his career in Saudagar with Nutan, spoke about her with tremendous reverence.

He said, “Actually, Nutan was …Nutan. Unique. Unforgettable. Ethereal. Divine. I did one of my early films Saudagar with her. I was completely in awe. She performed a very complex character so easily. She had the knack to map the emotional state of her character on her face so vividly, we just had to look at her face to know what her character was feeling. She left us too early. Regrettably, I could do only one film with her. But every shot with her in Saudagar is etched in my memory. No one who came in contact with her could forget her.”

Nutan is the mother to actor Mohnish Bahl and grandmother to actress Pranutan Bahl.

Kritika Kamra wraps up shoot for Anusha Rizvi’s female-led drama in Delhi

After completing work on Matka King, actor Kritika Kamra has now finished filming her next project — a feature-length dramedy directed by Peepli Live filmmaker Anusha Rizvi. The yet-to-be-titled film, which was shot entirely in Delhi, features a predominantly female cast, with Kritika in the central role.

The film also stars veteran actor Farida Jalal along with Juhi Babbar and Shreya Dhanwanthary in prominent parts. Known for crafting socially resonant narratives with a unique voice, Rizvi returns to the director’s chair with this ensemble-driven story that blends drama and light-hearted humour.

This project marks a significant step forward in Kritika Kamra’s film career, following a series of critically noted performances in digital series and her upcoming role in Matka King. The film offers her a chance to headline a narrative centred around female experiences, supported by a seasoned and diverse cast.

“Shooting in Delhi brought an authenticity to the film that would have been hard to replicate elsewhere. Kritika, Juhi, and Shreya brought incredible energy to the set, and Anusha’s vision for this project is both bold and refreshing,” said a source close to the production and added, “This film is a female led drama and has elements of comedy in it and Kritika is at the very heart of it.”

Anusha Rizvi made her directorial debut with Peepli Live (2010), which received critical acclaim for its satirical take on media and rural distress. Her latest project appears to continue her interest in socially relevant storytelling, this time through a female-focused lens with lighter, humorous undertones.

With principal photography now completed, the film has entered post-production. Further details, including the film’s title and release date, are expected to be announced in the coming months. The project adds to the growing roster of women-led narratives emerging in Indian cinema and is likely to draw interest for its ensemble cast and strong directorial backing.

Tanishk Bagchi on composing music for Saiyaara: “We are bringing back the essence of old melody”

Yash Raj Films is set to release its upcoming romantic drama Saiyaara, directed by Mohit Suri, on July 18, 2025. The film marks the Bollywood debut of Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda and introduces a new love story to the audience.

Tanishk Bagchi on composing music for Saiyaara: “We are bringing back the essence of old melody”

The title track, Saiyaara, is a heartfelt collaboration between composer Tanishk Bagchi, and co-composer Arsalan Abdullah and Faheem Nizami. Following the teaser drop of the title song, fans have shown great excitement, praising its soulful vibe and nostalgic touch. The full track is set to release on June 3, 2025, adding to the growing anticipation around the film.

“It is my first association with YRF. The name Saiyaara was given by Mohit Suri sir, although the song had a different name when we first started composing it. When I played the song for Mohit sir for the first time, he absolutely loved it and so did the YRF team. I had a strong feeling that this song would mark the beginning of a new era of romance. Saiyaara is the only song that was part of the film right from the start. Since I was involved in the film from the beginning, the song blended perfectly with the story. Mohit sir guided the entire concept of the song, and we worked closely to shape its sound. It was a beautiful collaboration between me, Faheem, and Arsalan. This song is just the beginning of a new genre and we’re bringing back the essence of old melodies, with something fresh and original,” shared Tanishk Bagchi.

The production of the track was led by Tanishk and his dedicated team, with guitarist Kalyan adding an extra layer of depth and emotion. While Tanishk, Arsalan, and Fahim have been working together for over two years, Saiyaara marks their first official release as a trio and the start of an exciting musical chapter.

With its blend of soulful music and a moving storyline, Saiyaara is poised to redefine modern romance in Bollywood. As the release date draws near, excitement continues to build for what promises to be an unforgettable cinematic experience.

The actor, choreographer and director said, “I had an amazing producer Mr Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who gave me a completely free hand to remake the original Telugu film the way I wanted to.
