Prabhudeva’s Hindi directorial venture Rowdy Rathore (2012) completed 13 years today. Starring Akshay Kumar in a double role along with Sonakshi Sinha, the movie was the official Hindi remake of SS Rajamouli’s Telugu movie Vikramarkudu (2006). Rowdy Rathore was produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
On the film’s 13th anniversary, Prabhudeva spoke about the film in an interview with us.
The actor, choreographer and director said, “I had an amazing producer Mr Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who gave me a completely free hand to remake the original Telugu film the way I wanted to. To be honest, I wasn’t trying to compete with Rajamouli sir. I couldn’t dream of trying to do what he did. I think I gave the subject my own spin. And it worked. A lot of the credit goes to Akshay sir, who was bang-on. He was game to give the original Telugu film a new spin in Hindi. I would any day agree to work with that team again.”
Rowdy Rathore was Prabhudeva’s second directorial hit in a row in Bollywood after the Salman Khan starrer Wanted (2009).
