Mahesh Manjrekar’s first wife Deepa Mehta passes away

Deepa Mehta, the first wife of filmmaker-actor Mahesh Manjrekar, has passed away. Their son, Satya Manjrekar, confirmed the news and shared a heartfelt tribute via Instagram.

Satya posted a photograph of his mother, captioning it: “I miss you Mumma.” In the aftermath of her demise, numerous friends and acquaintances offered condolences, many of which Satya reshared in his Instagram Stories. One well-wisher expressed, “Lost a guiding light today. She was more than a mother, she was an inspiration. Her strength, courage and passion in building her saree business empowered so many girls to dream big. She will always live on through the lives she touched and the paths she paved. Prayers and strengths to you Satya. May her inspiring soul give you courage.”

Deepa Mehta was a noted costume designer and also ran a saree label called Queen of Hearts, which found considerable appreciation in the Marathi film industry.

Mahesh Manjrekar and Deepa had been married in 1987, having known each other since their college days. During their marriage, they welcomed two children daughter Ashwami and son Satya. Their union ended in 1995, after which their children stayed with Mahesh. Later, Mahesh married actress Medha Manjrekar, and they have a daughter, Saiee, who ventured into acting with roles in Dabangg 3, Major, and Kuch Khattaa Ho Jaay.

As the film fraternity and fans mourn, Satya’s tribute captures both personal grief and the broader recognition of Deepa’s legacy.

EXCLUSIVE: Rajat Bedi reveals his children’s reaction to overnight fame: “They are OVERWHELMED; my daughter said, ‘What has happened to people? They are comparing me to Kareena Kapoor Khan!”; predicts huge response if Jaani Dushman re-releases: “People would come out in HORDES”

The Ba***ds Of Bollywood has changed the life of Rajat Bedi and also that of his family members. He, wife Monaliza, son Vivaan and daughter Vera walked the red carpet at the premiere of the web series and in no time, their pictures and videos went viral. Vera, especially, is being extensively talked about and also being compared with Kareena Kapoor Khan. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Rajat Bedi talked about this aspect.

Rajat Bedi said, “My children had no idea about the industry. They live in Canada and don’t know the concept of media, red carpet etc. In fact, for the first time, they walked the red carpet. They are innocent children who are suddenly taken by storm. They are completely overwhelmed. My daughter said, ‘What has happened to people? They are comparing me to Kareena’ (laughs)! And this is happening globally. She has suddenly become a global name.”

Rajat continued, “My son is also now being picked up. As a father, I feel so proud. Every parent wants their children to do well. The Ba***ds Of Bollywood has helped my family get recognition across the world.”

At another point in the interview, Rajat Bedi talked about losing his father Narendra Bedi at an early age. Narendra made films like Jawani Diwani (1972), Benaam (1974), Sanam Teri Kasam (1982), Adalat (1977) etc.

Rajat said, “I lost my father when he was just 45. I really miss having a father in my life. Me, my brother and sister grew up with a lot of struggles. My mother was a housewife. We are all self-made. There was goodwill of my father as well as my grandfather (Rajinder Singh Bedi). I am telling you, there’s some blessing from the universe because of which I have become relevant again. The universe has got me back. Now the audience will see that the makers do something, as they definitely want to see me. I am sure the makers will create something for me.”

In the era of re-releases, would he like it if his classic film Jaani Dushman (2002) releases again in cinemas? The actor smiled and said, “I am sure that if that happens, people would go in hordes to watch that film!”

Rajat Bedi signed off by talking excitedly about the next phase of his career, “I feel that I have got my due now in the industry. I feel I was left out. Maybe some people must have connected with my work; some didn’t. But I have worked a lot. I have height, body and personality. Main faad dunga. I have a lot of fire in me. I hope and pray that the directors and producers keep me in mind and write roles for me. I hope that they don’t get overpowered by heroes and the discussion that ‘uska role utna hona chahiye’. For Aryan, I came without baggage. Often, during casting, actors are typecast. But I can deliver. Like, I had not done comedy earlier. But my role in this show is comic. There’s also pain and aggression. I have a variation in my role in this show. I am definitely looking forward to filmmakers giving me an opportunity to perform and offer me strong roles.”

Dhanush defends his childhood struggles amid troll claims of privilege; says, “We didn’t have any money to buy idlis”

Actor Dhanush has addressed recent online criticism questioning the authenticity of his childhood hardships, which he had shared during the promotion of his upcoming film, Idli Kadai. The film, set to release on October 1, is a slice-of-life drama that reflects the protagonist’s return to revive his father’s modest idli shop.

In a recent pre-release event, Dhanush was asked about his earlier statements regarding his family’s financial difficulties. He clarified, “I was born in the year 1983. My dad turned a director in the year 1991. So, those eight years, we were in poverty. Even after he became a director, he had the responsibility of taking care of four children. He had to provide schooling for all of us and take care of us. During 1994-1995, it became okay. We started having a good lifestyle.”

He further explained, “However, when you are young, if you go ask your elders for money, they won’t immediately give it. This is especially true in households that run on a budget. My siblings and I (four of us) were children who understood the situation at home. We wouldn’t want to be a burden to our parents. So, even if we asked, we wouldn’t get money, and we wouldn’t ask also. Therefore, we worked in the fields, earned money, and bought idlis with it.”

Dhanush also reminisced about his childhood, saying, “An idli kadai is a very important aspect of my childhood. We didn’t have any money during our childhood to buy idlis from the idli kadai in our place. So, we started collecting flowers from the fields and selling them for money. My sister, cousins, and I would wake up at 4 am to do this every day so that we could have idlis from that shop. Nothing to this day beats the taste of those 4-5 idlis we bought with our hard-earned money. This film is my tribute to that place.”

Idli Kadai also stars Rajkiran, Nithya Menen, Arun Vijay, Sathyaraj, and Shalini Pandey. The film was initially scheduled for release on April 10 but has now been postponed to October 1.

Vikrant Massey confirms Dostana 2 with Lakshya, marks his first film with Dharma Productions: “I’m doing my first Dharma movie”

After receiving the National Award, actor Vikrant Massey has officially confirmed that his next project is Dostana 2, in which he stars alongside Lakshya. EXCLUSIVE: Manushi Chhillar NOT playing Emraan Hashmi’s leading lady in Awarapan 2

Emraan Hashmi’s extended cameo in The Ba***ds Of Bollywood has elevated his star status to next level. Yet again, the focus is on Awarapan, his much-awaited upcoming film that is all set to release in 2026. Recently, there were reports that Manushi Chhillar has signed the sequel to the 2007 classic and that she’ll be paired opposite Emraan. Bollywood Hungama has learned that it’s not true.

A source told Bollywood Hungama, “There’s no absolute truth to the fact that Manushi Chhillar has bagged the role of the leading lady in Awarapan 2. She is not doing the film.” When asked who has been locked, the source replied, “The makers will soon make an official announcement about the final cast and who is the lucky girl to bag the coveted part in Awarapan 2.”

An industry insider commented, “The first part has achieved a cult status on the internet because of its subject, performances, music and moving ending. Hence, it’s natural that Awarapan 2 is keenly awaited. For such films, it is also natural that speculations will arise about the casting.”

What is confirmed is that Awarapan 2, like the first part, will star Emraan Hashmi in the lead. It’ll be produced by Mukesh Bhatt and Vishesh Bhatt’s Vishesh Films and directed by Nitin Kakkar of Filmistaan (2014) fame. As per reports, the film will have a month-long schedule in Bangkok, Thailand, where almost 50% of the film will be shot. The reports further state that another schedule will take place in November, with the plan to wrap up the shoot by January 2026. The film is on track for its release on April 3, 2026.

In April 2025, Vishesh Bhatt said, “The first was a dramatic crime story set in a dark world; the sequel will be an emotional story [rooted in] crime. Awarapan 2 stirs and challenges the core emotions in us, [feelings that are] conflicted and dark. In an era of big-screen entertainers, these are stories that talk about one’s inner conflicts.”

Badshah undergoes eye surgery after injury during final show of North America tour: “Felt like Avtar ji’s punch”

Rapper and music sensation Badshah recently underwent treatment for a corneal abrasion in his left eye following an on-stage injury during the final performance of his North America tour. What initially seemed like mild discomfort during his last show turned out to be more serious, ultimately requiring a minor surgical procedure.

The 39-year-old artist shared the news on Instagram, posting photos with an eye patch and a light-hearted caption referencing his cameo in the new series The Ba**ds of Bollywood*:
“Avtar ji ka mukka hit karta hai jaisee.”

According to a close source, the injury occurred during the last leg of his tour. “Something went into his eye right at the start of the performance. He was clearly uncomfortable but continued performing until the end,” the source said. After returning to India, Badshah visited a doctor who confirmed that he had developed a corneal abrasion, explaining that he had been scratching his eye rigorously—an early sign of the injury. He later underwent a routine procedure and was advised to wear an eye patch for five days as part of the recovery.

The incident marked an unexpected turn at the close of what has been one of the biggest tours of Badshah’s career. His Unfinished Tour across North America was a major success, grossing over $6 million in ticket sales and attracting more than 45,000 fans across sold-out shows in New Jersey, Virginia, Oakland, Seattle, Dallas, and Chicago. The production scale was equally impressive, with a reported budget of $2 million.

Behind the scenes, delivering such high-energy performances night after night demanded not only stamina but also discipline. Badshah’s long-time trainer, Yuvraj Anand, crafted a fitness and recovery program to help the rapper stay in peak condition throughout the tour. “Each performance would burn anywhere between 1,200 to 1,500 calories,” Yuvraj revealed. “His preparation started hours before each show. We focused on complex carbs and protein-rich meals earlier in the day, followed by fast-digesting carbs and electrolytes closer to showtime to sustain his energy.”

During performances, continuous hydration and amino acid supplements helped him manage the intensity of choreography and crowd engagement. Off stage, his meals struck a balance between indulgence and functionality—favourites like chicken tikka and chicken Caesar salad paired with staples such as dal, rajma, or chana with rice, alongside lighter meals like avocado toast and veggie omelettes.

For now, fans are wishing Badshah a smooth and speedy recovery from his eye injury—and looking forward to seeing him back on stage soon, continuing to deliver the dynamic live shows he’s known for.

Divyanka Tripathi and Karan Patel reunite as Ishita–Raman for Star Parivaar Awards 2025

Divyanka Tripathi and Karan Patel, popularly known as Ishita and Raman from Yeh Hai Mohabbatein, have been one of television’s most beloved on-screen pairs. The duo charmed audiences for several years before the show concluded in 2019. Now, they are all set to reunite on the Star Parivaar Awards stage.

On her Instagram Stories, Divyanka Tripathi shared a screenshot of an article with the headline, “Yeh Hai Mohabbatein’s Ishita and Raman return to the Star Parivaar Awards stage, and it means the world!!!” This post served as her personal confirmation that she will be reuniting with her on-screen husband, Karan Patel, at the upcoming Star Parivaar Awards 2025.

The Star Parivaar Awards 2025 were filmed on September 20, according to Urban Asian, and will soon be broadcast on television. Celebrating the 25th anniversary of the awards show, the producers have reportedly brought together numerous iconic characters and actors for the event. Venice Film Festival winner Anuparna Roy hails Bad Girl; says, “It is a powerful female story of choices…”

Hours after the Hindi trailer of Bad Girl was released, filmmaker Anuparna Roy—who made history at the Venice Film Festival by winning the Orizzonti Award for Best Director—praised debutant director Varsha Bharath’s coming-of-age drama, calling it a ‘shining’ moment for Indian cinema.

Roy, who earlier this month won the coveted award for her directorial Songs of Forgotten Trees, described Bad Girl as an urgent yet entertaining film that tells a powerful story of female desire with a distinct touch of quirk.

Bad Girl, headlined by actor Anjali Sivaraman, is presented by filmmakers Anurag Kashyap and Vetri Maaran, who has also produced it under his banner, Grass Root Film Company.

It also reassures you that everything will be ok; you will find your space,” added Roy, whose own film ‘Songs of Forgotten Trees’ captured the lives of two women in Mumbai.

Bad Girl, set for a Hindi theatrical release on September 26, will be distributed by Flip Films. Starring Shanthipriya and featuring music by Amit Trivedi, the film made its debut at the 54th International Film Festival Rotterdam, where it won the prestigious NETPAC Award. It was released earlier this month in Tamil.

Zubeen Garg’s wife requests withdrawal of FIRs against close family friend Siddharth: “I hope the last rites for his departure go peacefully”

The sudden demise of celebrated singer, composer, and actor Zubeen Garg has left fans across India and abroad in deep shock. Best known for the iconic chartbuster ‘Ya Ali,’ the 52-year-old artist tragically passed away in Singapore during a scuba diving accident, just a day before he was scheduled to perform at a cultural festival promoting North East India.

As the wave of grief continues, Zubeen’s wife, Garima Saikia Garg, has appealed for peace, unity, and dignity during his final journey. In a heartfelt video message shared by India Today Nepal, Garima addressed fans in Nepali, urging them to ensure that the last rites proceed without disruption.

“Zubeen is coming home. When he was alive, you all showered him with love and blessings, and Zubeen loved all of you in return. I hope the last rites for his departure go peacefully. The police, along with the state administration, are fully supporting us,” she said.

Alongside her appeal for calm, Garima also extended support to Siddharth, a close family friend who had stood by the singer during some of his most difficult times, including his severe seizure in 2020 and the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Zubeen has always been our own, and whenever anyone spoke against Siddharth, Zubeen always stood by him. Please allow Siddharth to be part of Zubeen’s final journey. I request everyone to set aside any negative thoughts about Siddharth. I need all my people around me tomorrow, and I will need Siddharth’s support. Without him, I cannot do anything,” she added.

Garima further urged the withdrawal of all FIRs filed against Siddharth, noting that Zubeen had many unfinished commitments that she could not carry forward alone.

Shah Rukh Khan pleaded with Lawyer’s wife, offered private jet for Aryan Khan’s case

Shah Rukh Khan faced a difficult phase when his son Aryan Khan was arrested in the drugs-on-cruise case. Reports now reveal that he personally persuaded former attorney general and senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi to handle the matter, even arranging a private jet to fly him from England to Mumbai.

In fact, Shah Rukh Khan stayed at the same hotel as Mukul Rohatgi so they could go over the notes he had personally prepared for the case. Former attorney general and senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi recalled how he became involved in Aryan Khan’s case and how Shah Rukh Khan persuaded him, during an appearance on Republic TV’s The Legal Side of Things.

Mukul Rohatgi explained that, while it was essentially a routine bail case, it attracted widespread attention because it involved a “prominent personality.” He recalled, “I was in the UK on a holiday. And those there were COVID times. I got a call from somebody who was close to Mr. Khan that he wants you to argue that case in Bombay High Court. I refused (saying) that I don’t want to break my holiday. Somehow, Mr. Khan got my number and he called me, and I told him the same thing… He is a great actor and he said, ‘can I speak to your wife?”

Mukul revealed that Shah Rukh spoke to his wife, urging her to see the matter not as a client’s case but as a father’s plea. He recalled how the actor’s emotions were evident, and it was his wife who eventually persuaded him to take up Aryan Khan’s case.

Reflecting on the case preparation, Mukul noted that Shah Rukh played a significant role. “Mr. Khan was gracious enough. He offered me a private jet, which I didn’t take. I’m not very fond of small jets. So I flew down to Mumbai and Shah Rukh had himself checked into the same hotel where I usually stay, which is a Trident, Nariman Point. I found him to be quite keen and intelligent. He had made a lot of notes and points and stuff like that, apart from the lawyers. He discussed it with me. We argued it and bail was granted. And I promptly went back to England to spend the rest of my holidays,” he shared.

In October 2021, Aryan Khan came into the spotlight when the NCB raided a rave party on the Goa-bound Cordelia Empress cruise. Aryan, his friend Arbaaz Merchant, and others were arrested, and he spent over three weeks in jail before being released. He was later cleared in the drugs case.

Initially, Satish Maneshinde, Rhea Chakraborty’s lawyer, represented Aryan, followed by senior advocate Amit Desai. When the case moved to the Bombay High Court, Mukul Rohatgi took over.

EXCLUSIVE: Anurag Kashyap reveals many consider him “not commercial enough,” slams hero-centric casting culture; says, “We are living in a kind of La La Land”

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap is gearing up for the release of his much-awaited directorial Nishaanchi, but as he revealed in an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama, the journey to bring the film to life wasn’t an easy one.

“I wrote it in 2016,” Kashyap shared, before explaining why the film took years to materialise. “To get the right people together, in the sense, it is the kind of film—we had the actors, we had one actor set up when we wanted to start it in 2017–18. Then there was sudden silence. I met a lot of actors, and everyone loved the script, but you know how everything has become hero-centric. Plus, not a lot of people think that I am commercial enough for them. Everyone wants to make sure on the table whether they are doing a blockbuster. It’s not about a good film or a bad film.”

When asked if actors don’t already know that his films are driven by his vision, Kashyap explained, “That happens in the beginning of the career. This is not Hollywood. We are living in a very kind of La La Land. Westerners would not survive in this country. I think it is not where the actors feel like wanting to act. Look at Marvel movies—the actors in those films still want to step out and act in different kinds of roles. Yahan par 24 ghanta sabko Marvel hi rehna hai. You have to keep reinventing, but what is working? Only those actors are working who decide to work for themselves. When the agencies start deciding for you…”

Speaking of Nishaanchi, it is releasing on September 19. Directed by Anurag Kashyap and produced by Ajay Rai and Ranjan Singh under Jar Pictures, in association with Flip Films, Nishaanchi is written by Prasoon Mishra, Ranjan Chandel, and Anurag Kashyap. The film is headlined by debutant Aaishvary Thackeray in a fiery double role, alongside a brilliant cast featuring Vedika Pinto, Monika Panwar, Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub, and Kumud Mishra in pivotal roles.

Nishaanchi hits theatres nationwide on September 19.

Soha Ali Khan reflects on relationship with Kareena Kapoor Khan; says, “I feel like we have an independent relationship and there are many things that we connect over”

Soha Ali Khan shared insights into her childhood with her brother, actor Saif Ali Khan, and her evolving relationship with his wife, Kareena Kapoor Khan.

In a recent interview with The Quint, Soha revealed that she and Saif spent little time together during their formative years. She explained, “We were hardly under the same roof growing up, because there’s a nine-year difference between us. And by the time I was born, he was pretty much on his way to boarding school in England.”

Despite this, Soha acknowledged the bond they share as adults. She mentioned, “Now, it’s completely different. Ever since moving to the city, and I had lived with him for some time when I first moved here, and then quickly moved out and got my own place. But we connect on many levels… He’s a very different person to I am. But we have lots in common, lots of things that perhaps you feel other people may not get.”

She added, “That’s what siblings do, right? We have shared trauma, shared experiences, shared parents… Now, when you’re like 46 and 55, then the age gap seems less and less.”

Regarding Kareena Kapoor Khan, Soha admitted that it took time for her to trust her sister-in-law. She shared, “I feel that Kareena is an incredibly genuine person. One of the things that matters most to her is family. She is a very hands-on parent, wife, daughter, sister, and so many other things.”

She further stated, “We have known each other for many years, but it has taken time, as I think any genuine relationship does… I feel like sometimes it takes time to build trust and to get to know someone and to have an independent relationship with them outside of, you know, your husband. So I feel like that has happened… such that I feel like we have an independent relationship and there are many things that we connect over. For example, you know, I think being really good daughters.”

Soha’s reflections highlight the complexities of sibling relationships and the evolving dynamics within families. Her candidness offers a glimpse into the personal connections that shape the lives of Bollywood’s prominent figures.

Aamir Khan credits himself for introducing PATHBREAKING changes with Lagaan: “It was first film to have first AD, walkie-talkies, sync sound; Ronit Roy SECURED the sets with 150 guards, a FIRST in Bollywood”

In an interview with Komal Nahta, Aamir Khan shared a fascinating answer when asked about its weakness. He also revealed how he became a pioneer by introducing several ground-breaking practices during the making of his first production, Lagaan (2001).

When asked about his weakness, Aamir said, “I am not able to work according to a budget. We had hoped Lagaan would be made in Rs. 12 crores, but its budget ended up being Rs. 25 crores (laughs)!”

He continued, “During Lagaan, we had done extensive prep; ideally, there shouldn’t have been a problem. One day, I was doing my make-up. Suddenly, Reena (Reena Dutta) and Rao sahab (production manager Shamala S. Rao) told me that there was a problem. They said, ‘Ashu (director Ashutosh Gowariker) had asked us for 200 extras. We arranged for it. But now he is saying that 200 extras are not enough’. I left my make-up on and met him. He told me, ‘200 people look like just 20 people’ as the shooting site was wide. He asked for 800-1000 more people. I realized he was right. Reena aur Rao sahab were angry with me. They were like, ‘Whatever Ashu says, he agrees’! But Ashu was stating a fact. Reena asked me, ‘Toh fir aaj kya karein’. I replied, ‘Aaj cricket khelte hai’ (laughs)!”

 

Aamir added, “Then I suggested that we could film a small scene. Half a day had gone by, but let us utilize the other half. Or else, we could shoot. But galat shoot karna maza nahin aata hai.”

Aamir Khan revealed, “When I turned producer, I decided that I’ll work the way I always wanted to. I introduced the first AD system. Then, there were no walkie-talkies. We brought the communication system as well. For the first time, a film was shot in just one schedule. We even got sync sound, which was rarely done in mainstream cinema. I always wanted to shoot in sync sound and shoot in one schedule.  I wanted the real sound of the actor; there’s a certain quality to it. It can be tiring to recreate it (during the dubbing process); you need to relive those moments.”

Aamir Khan further stated, “Those days, there was no security on the set. The poor junior artist supplier used to provide security! For Lagaan, I called Ronit Roy and asked him to secure the set as it was in the middle of nowhere. It was built on a huge area. I wanted to secure the building where we were staying and also the equipment. There were 150 security guards. Again, this was done for the first time in Hindi cinema.”

Aamir summed up, “For the first time, a security system, communications system, first AD system, sync sound and one schedule happened with Lagaan. Definitely, all of these things worked and they are the norms today.”
