Ram Gopal Varma to make his “biggest film ever” titled Syndicate: “I took a vow to wash away my cinema sins”

Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has just revealed that he has decided to make the “biggest film ever” titled Syndicate. It’s about a ‘terrifying organisation’ which threatens the very existence of India.

Explaining the concept of the film, he said, “Street gangs which flourished till the 70’s were finished when they got absorbed into hardline political parties and later when the smugglers rose up due to heavy demand of electronic goods, gold etc, they too were destroyed by the economic reforms, and then the deadly corporate gangs like D Company, etc arrived, to be once again victoriously crushed. Similarly, the early black September terrorists paled in comparison to the deadly Al-Qaeda, which in turn looked like nothing in front of the horrific ISIS group.”

Varma added that there has been no notable criminal organisation since the last 10 to 15 years in India. “But right now, the intense polarisation in the country makes the timing ripe for a new kind of criminal organisation to rise. But unlike the organisations of the past, this new organisation joins forces from various groups including policing agencies, politicos, ultra-rich businessmen and also the military, thus making it a syndicate,” he said.

Sharing more details, RGV added, “This sets the stage for a chain of unimaginable but highly terrifying and intricately calculated events orchestrated by a shadowy organisation called the syndicate whose only goal is to replace India with a new India. Syndicate will be a very scary film not due to any supernatural elements, but because it will scarily expose, what horrors human beings can do. The film will deeply dwell into the cyclical nature of crime and terror proving that while we have our victories the dark truth is that crime and terror never die. They keep coming back in more deadlier forms.”

Varma informed that Syndicate is a futuristic story, but it’s not set in a far away future. “But what can happen even tomorrow or next week. For example, the entire world woke up to Al Qaeda on September 11, 2001, but did not know its existence even on September 10,” he said.

The filmmaker also said that Syndicate will begin with a statement – “Only man can be the most terrifying animal.”

Varma recently, in a long emotional statement, said that watching Satya again after more than 25 years has made him realize that he should go back to his earlier ways of making quality cinema. Touching upon that, he said, “I took a vow to wash away all my cinema sins that I committed over the past few years with this just one single film called Syndicate.

The filmmaker also said that the cast and the rest of the details would be announced soon.

“I was removed”: Akshay Kumar on missing Bhool Bhulaiyaa sequels

Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar, who headlined the 2007 cult classic Bhool Bhulaiyaa, recently opened up about not being included in the franchise’s second and third installments. Speaking at an event, a fan asked the actor why he wasn’t a part of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 or the latest installment, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. Akshay candidly replied, “Beta, mujhe nikaal diya tha (I was removed). That’s it.”

The Evolution of the Bhool Bhulaiyaa Franchise

The original Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007), directed by Priyadarshan, starred Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan and was a remake of the Malayalam film Manichitrathazhu (1993). The film became a cult classic, remembered for its blend of comedy and suspense and the iconic track ‘Hare Ram, Hare Ram.’

In 2022, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 took the story forward with Kartik Aaryan, Kiara Advani, and Tabu in lead roles. The franchise expanded further in 2024 with Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, which brought back Kartik Aaryan alongside Vidya Balan, Madhuri Dixit, and Triptii Dimri. Despite being synonymous with the franchise’s success, Akshay Kumar was notably absent from these sequels.

Akshay Kumar’s upcoming projects promise a mix of genres and star-studded collaborations. He will next be seen in Sky Force (January 24, 2025), a gripping high-stakes thriller where he plays an Indian Air Force officer on a mission of vengeance. The film also stars Sara Ali Khan, Nimrat Kaur, and debutant Veer Pahariya.

Akshay is reuniting with Priyadarshan for Bhooth Bangla, a horror-comedy featuring Tabu and Paresh Rawal, slated for an April 2026 release. Additionally, he will portray Lord Shiva in the Telugu film Kannappa, alongside an ensemble cast including Prabhas, Mohanlal, and Kajal Aggarwal. Fans can also look forward to his comic timing in Housefull 5 and Welcome to the Jungle.

Woh sadak pe aane wale the (They were on the verge of being out on the streets). And so, they came and discussed it with my business manager, head, and all.”

Urvashi Rautela continued, “And then, they took our permission ki woh movie ka scene tha, kuch aisa special nahin kiya tha humne. Woh movie ka hi scene tha. Toh un makers ka yeh ek request thi ki kya hum isko pehle leak out kar sakte hain. And it was sort of awareness also ki ladkiyon ko have to be careful (It was a scene from the movie; it wasn’t something special we had done. It was part of the movie itself. The makers requested if they could release it early. It was also intended to create awareness, especially for girls to be cautious).”

Urvashi Rautela has been a prominent figure in the industry, making her acting debut with the Hindi film Singh Saab The Great. Delnaaz Irani draws comparison between theatre and performing onscreen; says, “You have certain privileges while doing films and TV but it is not there on stage”

Delnaaz Irani, who has not only made a mark on Indian television and movies, has also established her name in the world of theatre. As she came across comparisons between the two mediums, the actress revealed how being on camera may have some privileges but being live not only has a different thrill but also a better experience for artists, especially actors. Speaking about the absence of retakes, the actress insisted that it is a great exercise for them to improve and work on their acting skills.

“So it’s very simple. In a show or in a film, you always have double takes. You have the chance to keep improving, to keep doing a good take until you are completely satisfied. But that option, that privilege, is not there on stage. You keep performing until you feel you are perfect. So, it’s always just that one performance, and you have to be so good. It’s definitely a challenge, and I feel the entire process and preparation for acting on stage is very, very different from acting in a film or for a show,” she said.

Talking about how she prepares for her roles, she shared, “So, the biggest challenge is to give a lot of time before the actual play starts, and you always have to be well-versed with your lines and the other people’s lines. The whole process is very different from film acting and television acting. Of course, your voice modulation, diction, and everything depend on it. The whole process is so, I would not say complicated, but it is very different from camera acting”.

She went on to add, “When you’re on stage, you have to be much louder. You need to know how to improvise. Whereas when performing a scene for a film or television, you are really not bothered about the volume or improvisation. You’re more in control of your character. On stage, however, you have to be very alert to what the other person is doing. There’s a lot of pressure, and that pressure lasts for almost two, two and a half hours while you’re performing. After that, everything’s okay, but it’s always very different to perform on stage.”

However, there is something that Delnaaz thoroughly enjoys on stage. Confessing on the same, she revealed, “I love doing comedy on stage. That’s my biggest forte. Comedy is very, very difficult. People think that making others laugh is an easy job, but it’s not. It’s the toughest job to make a person laugh, especially with so many people doing comedy today—it’s even tougher. So, I think getting into a character and making people laugh is very difficult, especially on stage. I’ve learned the art of performing on stage with my comic characters, and I just love it. I don’t think it’s something that’s a difficult challenge for me anymore. I enjoy my comedy roles and feel so happy in that space. I obviously want to do some challenging roles, even on stage, but right now, I’m very happy with my comedy and comic roles. I just love them.”

She also asserted that an actor needs to be selfless to perform well. “I just want to add one more thing here: an actor needs to be very, very selfless when performing on stage—and actually everywhere. Be it films, be it serials, everywhere. When you are a selfless actor and not a selfish one, work becomes simpler, easier, and there’s purity in what you’re doing. There’s a certain kind of innocence and rawness in your performance. I have worked with several actors on stage, but one name I need to mention today, because I’ve learned so much from him, is Mr. Rakesh Bedi. I’ve done so many plays with him—over a thousand shows of different plays together. He is, without a doubt, the finest co-star I’ve ever had. He is fabulous in comedy, a true master, and I have learned so much from him. But one important lesson I’ve learned from this man is how to be selfless on stage,” she insisted.

She concluded by adding, “There’s a play we did called Wrong Number. We did it a couple of years back, and we had the best times on stage because the audience would literally go into a frenzy—people would fall off their seats! He gives me that space to perform. He simply says, ‘Delu, just go for it.’ When you have actors like him—legends who are so carefree and allow you to be yourself on stage—it gives you that encouragement and makes you feel like, ‘Okay, fine, I own this stage. I own it.’ I just wanted to mention this because he’s been absolutely fantastic over the years.”

Amitabh Bachchan sells his duplex apartment in Mumbai for Rs. 83 crores: Report

Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan has sold his duplex apartment in Oshiwara, Mumbai, for Rs. 83 crores, according to property registration documents reviewed by Square Yards on the website of the Inspector General of Registration (IGR). The transaction was registered in January 2025.

Oshiwara, a bustling neighborhood in western Mumbai, is known for its vibrant lifestyle and strategic location near the Lokhandwala Complex. Well-connected by roads and the Mumbai Metro, it offers a seamless blend of urban convenience and modern living. The property is located in The Atlantis, a residential project by Crystal Group in Oshiwara, spread across 1.55 acres, offering 4, 5, and 6 BHK apartments.

As per the IGR registration documents reviewed by Square Yards, the premium duplex apartment spans a built-up area of 529.94 sq. m (~5,704 sq. ft) and a carpet area of 5,185.62 sq. ft (~481.75 sq. m). It also features a spacious terrace measuring 445.93 sq. m (~4,800 sq. ft) and includes six mechanized car parking spaces. The transaction incurred a stamp duty payment of Rs. 4.98 crores and registration charges of Rs. 30,000.

Square Yards’ analysis, based on a review of IGR registration documents, reveals that the duplex apartment was purchased by Bachchan for Rs. 31 crores in April 2021 and was currently sold for Rs. 83 crores, reflecting a remarkable 168% increase in value. Additionally, the same apartment was given on rent to actress Kriti Sanon in November 2021 for a monthly rent of Rs. 10 lahks and a security deposit of Rs. 60 lahks, according to IGR lease documents reviewed by Square Yards.

Box Office: Emergency is fair, Azaad low on Friday

Two new films released this Friday – Emergency and Azaad. Both were aiming primarily for multiplex audiences and whole former is a political drama, latter is a period film with a horse as the centre of attraction. Kangana Ranaut had completed Emergency some time back and has finally released the film in theatres after weathering all the storm. On the other hand, Ajay Devgn is seen in a special role in Abhishek Kapoor’s Azaad, which is the launchpad of his nephew Amaan Devgn along with Raveena Tandon’s daughter Rasha Thadani.

Both the films were always expected to grow primarily on the basis of word of mouth. Emergency is as it is a content film which means from limited footfalls on the day of release, it basically aims for that Saturday and Sunday audience to take it through. On the other hand, Azaad had to rely on younger audiences to step into theatres to welcome the newcomers, something which required chartbuster music or action to make it happen on the very first day.

There was some aid that came from Cinema Lovers Day as tickets were available at much cheaper price. Emergency had a better advantage here, as was seen from evening and night shows that did grow, hence resulting in Rs. 2.25 crores* coming in. Also, the reports have also ranged from decent to good, which means one can expect good growth today even on normalised price. On the other hand, Azaad was low and though one didn’t expect collections to be anything major due to aforementioned reasons, still it would have been better to accumulate more than Rs. 1.50 crore* that it eventually did on Friday. All eyes are now on how the film sustains from here with regular ticket prices coming into force.

As details of the utterly shocking and brutal attack on Saif Ali Khan at his high-security home in Mumbai are filtering in, there are only two certainties that we can count on at the moment: that Saif’s life is not endangered, and that nobody is safe.

A close friend of the couple woke up groggy to the news and was still attempting to process the enormity of the trauma. “The one thing I can tell you at this moment is that Saif is out of danger. The stab wounds have providentially not damaged his vitals. Kareena and the kids are unhurt physically. But the family is in a state of shock. You can imagine the extent of their shock at the damage caused by breach of security. Given the circumstances, it is highly insensitive of the media to call up every member of the family non-stop. Please give them some space to come to terms with the trauma.”

Saif’s mother Sharmila Tagore is flying in later today.

Ironically, Saif and this writer had spoken about the security of his home some time ago when the invasive aggression of the paparazzi had reached an unbearable crest. Saif had said then, “We understand it (the paps) are doing their job. But when they enter my home compound, that’s clicking it too close. Luckily, we are in a high security home, so the family is safe.”

Veer Pahariya pens heart-touching note after Devayya’s family

The debutant recently had an emotional meeting with the war hero’s family in Bengaluru. He took to his social media handle to share some of the heartfelt moments from his interaction with Mrs. Sundari Devayya, the 90-year-old wife of the late Squadron Leader, and their daughters, Smitha and Preetha.

Along with that, he also penned a long note, wherein he wrote, “It is difficult to put into words the emotions I felt today after meeting Mrs. Sundari Devayya, the 90-year-old wife of the legendary Mahavir Chakra recipient, Squadron Leader Ajjamada B. Devayya, and their daughters, Smitha and Preetha, in Bengaluru. For the past 3 and a half years, I have immersed myself in learning about the life and heroism of this extraordinary man while preparing for my role as “Tabby” in “Sky Force.” I thought I understood his bravery and sacrifice, but today, hearing anecdotes from his family—the people who knew him, loved him, and continue to honor his memory—left me deeply moved and humbled”.

During the meeting, Veer was profoundly touched by Mrs. Sundari Devayya’s quiet strength and enduring love for her husband, as well as the pride and warmth with which their daughters shared stories of the late Squadron Leader. “Mrs. Sundari Devayya, with her quiet strength and enduring hope, left an indelible impression on my heart. Even at 90, she shares a love with her hero that transcends time—a testament to the unshakable bond they shared. Their daughters spoke of their father with pride, filling the room with stories of his courage, kindness, and sense of duty,” he continued and also added, “Today, I was in tears in the face of their resilience and immense sacrifice, yet overwhelmingly proud to be a part of bringing his story to the world through “Sky Force.” Squadron Leader Devayya’s legacy is not just one of bravery in the skies but also of the profound love and strength he left behind in the hearts of his family.”

He concluded by stating how the meeting will also remain with him forever and expressed his gratitude to the Devayya family, “This meeting will stay with me forever, serving as a reminder of the deep cost of heroism and the unyielding spirit of those who carry its torch. Thank you to the Devayya family for their blessings. I hope to make them and every single Indian proud with “Sky Force.”

About Squadron Leader Devayya

Squadron Leader Ajjamada Boppayya Devayya MVC is the only Indian Air Force officer to be posthumously awarded the Maha Vir Chakra. Fondly remembered as ‘Wings of Fire,’ Devayya was part of a strike mission targeting the Pakistani airbase Sargodha when he was attacked by an enemy aircraft. While he shot down the enemy pursuer’s plane, his aircraft was damaged and he went missing in the process. After he was presumed dead in Pakistani territory, 23 years later, in 1988, he was posthumously awarded the MVC award.

Game Changer Box Office: Ram Charan – Kiara Advani starrer opens well

2025 has kick started and all eyes are on how this year turns out to be for movies at the box office. 2024 was a mixed year and hence one was waiting for a movie that sets the tone for the year. Game Changer is the first film of the year and as a pan-India affair, it has seen an extensive release in Hindi as well.

Given the kind of advance booking that it was seeing till Thursday, it had seemed like the film would open in Rs. 4-5 crores range at best. However, the film has sprung a pleasant surprise as the first day numbers are far higher than what advance booking may have suggested. The Hindi version has opened at Rs. 8.64 crores and that’s actually a far bigger start than what seemed on the cards. It’s clear that after a fair start in the morning shows, positive word of mouth has caught up for the film and that’s what ensured good momentum post evening shows.

The reports are good for the Ram Charan starrer which means there would be growth today and tomorrow. At the very least, Rs. 30 crores will come for the film and the target would be surpass Devara (Hindi) weekend of Rs. 29.52 crores. The start has been a little better as Devara (Hindi) had opened at Rs. 7.95 crores and now the weekend trending should take it past it.

Sonu Nigam says AR Rahman is not a “friendly person”; lauds his disciplined and kind nature

Singer Sonu Nigam recently shared insights into his professional relationship with acclaimed composer AR Rahman, speaking about Rahman’s reserved personality and work-centric nature. Speaking to O2 India, Sonu revealed that Rahman avoids personal connections and focuses solely on his music and spirituality. Describing him as detached yet respectful, Sonu said, “He doesn’t have relationships. He is not the kind of person who has relationships.”

He further added, “He doesn’t open up to anyone. At least, I have never seen that. Perhaps, he opens up in front of his older friends, who have known him as Dileep. But I haven’t seen him opening up or having any relationship with anybody. He is not a friendly person. He is just into his work.”

Sonu’s remarks come from years of working with Rahman, starting with their first collaboration on the soundtrack of Daud. Reflecting on that experience, Sonu recalled being pleasantly surprised by Rahman’s approach, which allowed him the creative freedom to interpret songs his way.

A Reserved Yet Respectful Persona

In the interview, Sonu Nigam delved deeper into Rahman’s personality, highlighting his unique traits. The two artists toured the USA together, but their interactions were limited to polite exchanges. “He doesn’t know how to gossip, and that is not his drawback. This is how he is. He doesn’t want to know anything about me or anybody else,” Sonu explained.

Despite his detachment, Sonu described Rahman as an extremely respectful individual who refrains from speaking ill about anyone. “He does his work and his prayer. He doesn’t behave badly with anyone. He will not hurt anybody’s heart,” Sonu added, portraying the composer’s disciplined and kind nature.

The Legacy of a Professional Relationship

Sonu also noted Rahman’s strict professionalism, which he believes stems from the composer’s focus on his craft and faith. “He must be attached to his family, but I haven’t seen him being very friendly with others. He doesn’t let anyone come close to him. That’s how it should be,” the singer concluded.

The Independence Day is considered to be one of the most lucrative periods of film release in a year. This year, the weekend has been blocked way in advance by Aditya Chopra for the release of War 2 with Hrithik Roshan and NTR Jr. But we hear that a three way clash is in the offing during the August 15 weekend.

A very reliable source in the trade has confirmed that Aamir Khan is considering to bring Lahore:1947 with Rajkumar Santoshi and Sunny Deol during the Independence Day 2025 weekend. “Lahore: 1947 is a film that celebrates India’s Independence and what better than August 15 to release the film. They are strongly considering this date and will make an official announcement very soon,” a source told us, adding further that the film is led by Sunny Deol and also features Aamir Khan in an extended cameo.

That’s not all, War 2 will also face competition from the Lokesh Kanagaraj directed Coolie on Independence day. “The Rajinikanth starrer is the most awaited film of Tamil Cinema and the producers have locked Independence Day release for their film. Interestingly, even Coolie features Aamir Khan in an extended cameo,” the source told us further.

As things stand today, August 15 will see the release of Hrithik Roshan and NT Jr’s War 2, Rajinikanth and Aamir Khan’s Coolie and Sunny Deol and Aamir Khan’s Lahore: 1947. The drama is expected to intensify in the weeks to come.

In a recent podcast, Kriti Sanon recalled some of her most fond memories of the film and how the breakdown scene took a significant toll on her, revealing that it was the first time she continued crying even after the director called “cut.” During her interaction with Ranveer Allahbadia, Sanon admitted that the emotional intensity of the scene required a great deal of effort and emotional investment. The actress shared, “It is one of my most favorite shots of that film as an actor. In front of the mirror, when I put powder and then I throw everything, and then I go and I start tearing all the posters and all…It’s a small scene but it requires a lot from within.

Kriti further added, “Some magic happened in that shot and for the first time in my life, even after the ‘cut’, I kept crying, which I felt would never happen with me.”. Her performance as a surrogate mother, navigating the complexities of motherhood and personal sacrifice, left a lasting impact on audiences, earning her widespread acclaim and awards.

Kriti Sanon’s role earned her several accolades, including the Filmfare Award for Best Actress (Critics) and National Award for her performance in Mimi.
