The Goa government has declared the Hindi film Chhaava tax-free in the state. The biopic, featuring Vicky Kaushal as Maratha warrior king Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, hit theaters on February 14.

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced on X that Chhaava is tax-free in the state, stating that Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj’s sacrifice is an inspiration for people.
Goa CM Pramod Sawant announced on X, “It gives pleasure to me to announce that movie Chhaava based on the life & sacrifice of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, will be Tax Free in Goa.”
He added, “The Movie exploring the valor, courage of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj for Dev, Desh and Dharma played by Vicky Kaushal, is bringing the glorious history to the screen. The sacrifice of the second Chhatrapati of the Hindavi Swarajya, who valiantly fought against Moghuls, the Portuguese is an inspiration for all of us.”
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav also declared Chhaava tax-free in the state on Wednesday. The announcements from both states coincided with the 395th birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the founder of the Maratha Empire and father of Chhatrapati Sambhaji.
Chhaava, starring Vicky Kaushal, Rashmika Mandanna, and Akshaye Khanna, is directed by Laxman Utekar and produced by Dinesh Vijan under Maddock Films. Based on Shivaji Sawant’s Marathi novel Chhava, the film has received positive reviews from both audiences and critics. It is on track to become the first Bollywood film of 2025 to cross the ₹200-crore mark and has surpassed Sky Force (₹112 crore) to become the highest-grossing Hindi film of the year.
