When a trip to Indore changed everything for Suneel Darshan – how Rishta – A Bond of Love was born with Akshay Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan

Following the surprise success of Jaanwar (1999), Suneel Darshan found himself on a creative high. The action-packed emotional drama had not only revived Akshay Kumar’s career at the time but also marked a turning point for Darshan as a storyteller known for mixing commercial flair with strong sentiment. Riding on that momentum, he was all set to begin work on another story-oriented action entertainer, again with Akshay in the lead.

The plan was in motion – the subject was locked, the first song was already recorded, and the groundwork for the film’s launch had quietly begun. But destiny had other ideas.

In early 2000, Darshan made a routine trip to Indore to check in on operations at his distribution office there. But the change in environment sparked something unexpected. An old story – one that had been lingering in his mind for years – suddenly came back with renewed urgency. “It was like something shifted,” a source close to the filmmaker recalled. “He couldn’t ignore it anymore.”

On returning to Mumbai, Suneel did what he always did when at a creative crossroads – he narrated the story to his mother. Deeply moved, she encouraged him to shelve the action project and pursue this one instead. She believed this story had the potential to help him grow as a director, emotionally and artistically.

Suneel then turned to his Jaanwar star, Akshay Kumar, who surprisingly gave the same reaction. The story struck a chord, and Akshay agreed instantly. It was a different tone from their usual collaborations, but both felt it was the right move.

The biggest surprise came when Suneel approached Amitabh Bachchan. Still riding high on his second innings post-Mohabbatein and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Big B gave a quick nod. He was reportedly impressed by the emotional depth of the story and the layered character he would get to play.

And just like that, Rishta – A Bond Of Love was officially launched – a multi-starrer that promised to blend familial drama with star power.

Avinash Tiwary wishes to be counted among Ranveer Singh, Ranbir Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor, and others: “I’m waiting for that one major film”

Over the years, Avinash Tiwary has gained prominence for his choices of projects, his knack for choosing creativity over mainstream content, and the potential he brings to the screens across genres. Recently, the actor delved deep into his choices, shared his opinion on how films perform, and how his aim is to create as much variety as he can.

Speaking about the challenges he faced throughout his flourishing career, and staying clear about the broader realities of the industry, Avinash said, “I don’t think the challenges have changed. The system is still the same, and nothing has really changed.” Avinash is vocal about the shift in attention from genuine craft to digital presence. He says, “If you get attention – whether good or bad – even if 950 out of 1000 comments are negative, the sheer volume of engagement drives the algorithm to support you, leading to significant revenue.”

Sharing his opinion on how the focus has shifted from recognizing value to attention, he says, “We’re rewarding attention, not quality – and that says everything about the system. We’ve reached a point where we fail to acknowledge true value. We sit and complain about the creators, but we don’t want to take any responsibility as consumers. If the audience took responsibility, creators would be accountable too.”

Speaking about exploring potential across genres, Avinash says, “As an actor, my aim is to create as much variety as I can. I came into this industry not for survival but for excellence. The projects I’ve been a part of, including Laila Majnu, Bulbbul, Bambai Meri Jaan, and Madgaon Express, I believe, are some of the best in their genre in the last five years. What more could an artiste want? I’m working on a lot of projects, but because I don’t seek attention or generate gossip, I’m not always in the spotlight.”

He adds, “Ranveer Singh, Ranbir Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal, and Rajkummar Rao have the ability to pull off stardom while bringing depth to the characters they play. I would like to be counted among them. For now, I’m a similar product at a much lower price.” And concludes, “I can definitely say that when I walk into a room today, there’s a certain level of admiration and respect for my work and me. But I’m waiting for that one major film that will reach out to everyone.”

On the work front, Avinash Tiwary is currently shooting for his upcoming rom-com, Ginny Wedss Sunny 2, wherein he will be seen sharing the screen space for the first time with Medha Shankr. The film is written and directed by Prasshant Jha, produced by Vinod Bachchan, and presented by Soundarya Productions, and it is yet to receive a release date.

Maa trailer launch: Ajay Devgn reacts to a question hinting at Deepika Padukone’s eight-hour Spirit row: “Most of the honest filmmakers will not have a problem…”

Actors Kajol and Kherin Sharma launched the trailer of their film Maa at a multiplex in Mumbai. They were joined by Kajol’s actor-producer Ajay Devgn, producer Kumar Mangat Pathak, director Vishal Furia and project head and creative producer Vishal Danish Devgn. R Madhavan was the surprise guest, and it added to the fun. A few days ago, there were reports that Deepika Padukone stepped out of Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit and one of the reasons behind that since she’s a mother, she wanted only an 8-hour shift. As per reports, the director was not ready with this condition.

With this film titled Maa and with this episode being fresh, a journalist asked Kajol to comment on whether a demand for an eight-hour shift for a working mom is fair. The journalist, however, didn’t mention the Spirit episode. Kajol said, “I love the fact that if you can work less…”

Before she could complete her reply, Ajay Devgn took the mic and stated, “Sorry to interrupt but it’s not like it’s not going well. People understand.”

He continued, “Most of the honest filmmakers will not have a problem. Apart from just being a mother and working for 8 hours, usually people have started working for 8 to 9 hours in a shift. So, it’s a person to person and most of the industry does understand all this.”

Kajol bonds with Kherin

The banter between Kajol and her on-screen daughter Kherin Sharma at the trailer launch was heartening. Kherin said, “I am very excited and also nervous.” Kajol immediately retorted, “Don’t lie!”

Kherin insisted that she was not lying. Kajol continued, “Let me tell you all that she is not nervous at all.” Kherin replied, “I am really nervous. My hands are sweating.” The actress said, “That happens with you 24×7!”

Maa releases in cinemas on June 27. It is presented by Jio Studios and Devgn Films, directed by Vishal Furia and produced by Ajay Devgn and Jyoti Deshpande.

Tusshar Kapoor on 24 years of his debut Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai, “I was thrilled that I was launched without family support”

Actor Tusshar Kapoor made his debut with Satish Kaushik’s Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai. The film was a romantic drama that also starred Kareena Kapoor Khan. On the film’s 24^th anniversary, which is today, Tusshar looked back fondly at it in an interview with us.

Fond memories of your maiden film?
It was my first job, you can say. So, I looked at it that way and I was thrilled that I was getting launched into a career without family support. Independent of my home production.

Satish Kaushik was known to be a hard taskmaster
Satish ji was the best and the most challenging part of the whole experience! Best because he wanted a perfectly natural performance, like I was an experienced newcomer, and tough because he never minced words or restrained his temper to get that out of me!

This was Kareena’s second release
Kareena was mind-blowing in every way. Her freshness, confidence and the way she brought her tender side into the character of Pooja!

You knew her well from before shooting with her?
Yes, but we didn’t speak much as I was like a freshman trying to ace his exams on the set and she was hardly a newcomer then with some experience behind her!

Was Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai the launch you had hoped for?
The film gave me everything that a newcomer could ask for – box office numbers, critical acclaim from various quarters and awards too! But like all debut, it was only a great beginning. Wasn’t too long before I understood that the journey had only well begun and there were miles to go before I could even chill!

If you had a chance to do it again, would you change anything?
No, I’d do it the same way and I can’t redo it because that innocence and natural rawness won’t come back ever!

The music was a chartbuster
The songs were a blessing. Each song did well as it got launched but when ‘Rabba Mere Rabba’ came out all the songs went to number 1! The songs are still popular and have kept the film alive even 24 years later! Much of the film’s opening can attributed to the success of the album! Thank you, Anu Malik ji.

Salman was last seen alongside Rashmika Mandanna in the movie Sikandar. Directed by A R Murugadoss, the film hit theatres on March 30. It was produced by Sajid Nadiadwala under his banner, Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment. The cast also included Kajal Aggarwal, Sathyaraj, Sharman Joshi, Prateik Babbar, Anjini Dhawan, and Jatin Sarna.

Sikandar is now available for streaming on Netflix. On Saturday, Netflix India posted a Sikandar poster on their Instagram account with the caption: “Suna hai bohot log Sikandar ka intezaar kar rahe the? Sikandar aa gaya hai Netflix par raj karne. Watch Sikandar, out May 25 on Netflix.”

Suniel Shetty reveals daughter Athiya Shetty has decided to quit Bollywood: “I’m not interested, I don’t want to do films”

Suniel Shetty revealed that his daughter, Athiya Shetty, has decided to leave Bollywood and quit acting. In a recent interview, the veteran actor confirmed that Athiya is no longer interested in pursuing a career in the film industry and is comfortable stepping away from it.

In an interview with Pinkvilla, while promoting his film Kesari Veer, Suniel said, “She said, ‘Baba, I don’t want to,’ and she just left. And that’s what I salute her for saying, ‘I’m not interested. I don’t want to do films.’ After Motichoor Chaknachoor, a lot came her way. ‘But I don’t want to. I’m comfortable, you know?”

Suniel also mentioned that Athiya is now focused on her mommy duties, saying, “She’s got the best role of her life. You know, she’s working in the best film, and that is the life, the role of her mother and she’s loving it.”

Earlier, in an exclusive interview with News18 Showsha, Suniel Shetty also spoke about Athiya’s decision to step away from films. He shared, “She does not want to do films. After she did Motichoor Chaknachoor, she said ‘I don’t want to be a part of this.’ She works really hard.”

Athiya Shetty’s Bollywood journey began with her debut film Hero (2015), a remake of the 1983 classic, where she starred alongside Sooraj Pancholi. While her performance received mixed reviews, she gained attention for her charming on-screen presence. She later appeared in Mubarakan (2017), a comedy-drama about two friends who were born on the same day and accidentally swapped at birth.

In Motichoor Chaknachoor (2019), Athiya portrayed a young woman eager to marry an NRI, demonstrating her acting versatility and confidence.

Athiya Shetty married cricketer KL Rahul in January 2023 at Suniel Shetty’s Khandala farmhouse. The couple welcomed their first child, a baby girl, on March 24, 2025. They shared a joint post on Instagram that read, “Blessed with a Baby Girl. 24.03.2025. Athiya And Rahul.”

Shah Rukh Khan, Kiara Advani, and Farah Khan star in hilarious Myntra ad that ends ‘without an ad’

In a move that blends Bollywood star power with comedy gold, Myntra has unveiled a quirky new commercial for its upcoming End of Reason Sale (EORS), featuring Shah Rukh Khan, Kiara Advani, and director-choreographer Farah Khan — all together for the first time in an ad.

Released on May 22, the commercial flips the typical endorsement trope on its head. Directed by Farah Khan herself, the ad opens with the trio on set, ready to shoot a big-budget commercial for Myntra’s EORS. But there’s a twist — Farah decides the sale is so good, it doesn’t even need a commercial. “Arre aisa offer, iski ad banana ki kya zarurat hai (Why make an ad for an offer like this)?” she quips, abandoning the shoot midway. She is also joined by her favourite celebrity househelp – Dilip who becomes her assistant in handing out chores to the stars.

What follows is a comedy-of-errors scenario where Shah Rukh and Kiara are roped into doing everything except filming. From cutting vegetables and playing dumb charades to posing for selfies with crew members and running errands, the duo becomes hilariously entangled in Farah’s chore list. Meanwhile, Farah goes on to choreograph a dance for a Myntra employee’s sister’s sangeet — the only “shoot” she actually agrees to do. The ad ends with SRK and Kiara sitting back with popcorn, enjoying Farah’s impromptu dance rehearsal.
