Shreya Ghoshal recently reflected on the early phase of her career, recalling the global impact of Devdas, which marked her debut as a playback singer. In a recent interview, she spoke about how the scale of the film’s success was something she had not anticipated at the time.
“I was too young and too naive to really understand what was going on back then. But Devdas went on to create such a massive international impact globally, and that was something I was never prepared for,” she said, looking back at the experience.
Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Devdas went on to achieve significant recognition both in India and internationally, contributing to the global visibility of Indian cinema. The film’s music, including Ghoshal’s songs, also played a key role in its popularity and long-lasting cultural recall. Ghoshal’s debut with the film marked the beginning of a successful playback singing career, with her voice becoming closely associated with several iconic tracks in Hindi cinema.
