As excitement builds for the release of the sequel to the spy thriller Dhurandhar, Dhurandhar The Revenge, senior journalist and political commentator Rajdeep Sardesai has shared his thoughts on the first instalment after finally watching the film. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Sardesai posted a detailed reaction, praising the film’s direction, performances, and its ability to capture the mood of the times.

Sharing his review, Sardesai wrote, “FINALLY saw Dhurandhar today (part 1). My verdict? Very very clever film that captures the mood of the times. Aditya Dhar is a very skilful director and the excessive violence at times is matched by a sense of righteous rage. While the characters conform to the macho imagery of a spy thriller (from @RanveerOfficial to Akshaye to Sanjay Dutt) the show stealer for me was Rakesh Bedi as the sleazy Pakistani politician . The scripting and dialogue lacks the genius of a Sholay (the ultimate blockbuster of my generation) but end of the day a paisa vasool film for those who like plenty of gore on their entertainment plate”.
The journalist’s comments have added to the buzz surrounding the franchise, particularly as audiences await the second chapter of the story. The first film gained popularity for its intense narrative, high-octane action sequences, and gripping portrayal of covert intelligence operations.

Meanwhile, the upcoming sequel, Dhurandhar – The Revenge, written and directed by Aditya Dhar, is all set to take the story ahead. Starring Ranveer Singh in the role of Hamza Ali Mazari as well as Jaskirat Singh Rangi (his original identity before becoming a spy), the film will once again mark the return of fan favourite characters – Sanjay Dutt as SP Chaudhary Aslam, Arjun Rampal as Major Iqbal, R. Madhavan as Ajay Sanyal, and Sara Arjun as Yalina Jamali.
Produced by Jio Studios and B62 Studios, the sequel is slated for a global theatrical release on March 19, 2026, coinciding with the festive celebrations of Gudi Padwa, Ugadi, and Eid. Expanding its reach following the success of the first film, the sequel will release in multiple languages including Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada.
Narratively, the film continues immediately after the cliffhanger ending of the 2025 blockbuster. The story follows Jaskirat Singh Rangi as he infiltrates deeper into the Karachi underworld following the death of Rehman Dakait. The plot then builds toward a high-stakes confrontation with the primary antagonist, ISI agent Major Iqbal, as Rangi works from within the system to dismantle an emerging terror network.
With the sequel’s release around the corner, reactions like Sardesai’s are further fuelling curiosity around how the franchise will expand its high-stakes espionage world on the big screen.
