Dhurandhar 2 has torn through the box office clutter like a storm. Starring Ranveer Singh and directed by Aditya Dhar, the much-awaited sequel has already sold tickets worth a staggering Rs. 70 crore for its opening day, including paid previews, with four hours still left for the premieres to begin. The film is not just setting records; it is rewriting the very scale of what a Hindi film opening can look like in India.
The film is headed for a historic business of Rs. 100 crore plus in India for the opening day, inclusive of paid previews – a phenomenon never witnessed before, and probably never after as well. The first day of business will be defined by the capacity, as there is demand among the audience to take it as high as Rs. 135 crores too, but the demand at the moment is far higher than the supply.
The paid previews are tracking to hit the Rs. 45 crore mark, whereas the first day looks to be in the range of Rs. 75 crores as per very early projections based on the trends, but again, capacity might curtail things a little.
Globally too, it’s absolute carnage for Dhurandhar 2, as the film is on track to record a worldwide start of around Rs 250 crore, which is unheard of and beats the previous best, Jawan, by a 2x margin.
