In a few heartfelt lines, the actress introduced audiences to Naina — a character she describes as someone who stayed with her long after the shoot wrapped. But beyond the film’s romance, it is the social reality embedded in Naina’s journey that makes this story particularly timely.
Directed by Ravi Udyawar and produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali Films, the film may be positioned as a love story, but Sandeepa’s words reveal something deeper — a layered commentary on the quiet pressures women continue to face in Indian society.
“Everyone sees Naina as the ‘perfect’ one,” she wrote. “Beautiful. Accomplished. Married into wealth. On paper, she embodies the aspirational ideal that society celebrates. One of the film’s most significant themes, as she pointed out, is sibling comparison — a cultural norm that is rarely addressed openly yet deeply impacts self-worth. At a time when conversations around mental health, individuality, and emotional autonomy are finally entering mainstream discourse, Naina’s journey feels relevant.
