EXCLUSIVE: Bhumi Pednekar reveals how Daldal uses silence as its sharpest weapon: “She doesn’t express anything except anger”

One of the most daring creative choices in Daldal is its refusal to explain itself too early, a choice that even unsettled interviewer Rohit Khilnani. “As a viewer, I kept wondering where this character was going,” he admitted during his exclusive chat with Bollywood Hungama. “And then it goes somewhere completely unexpected.”

That slow burn is intentional. Bhumi Pednekar’s character withholds emotion, information and reaction until the silence becomes unbearable. “She doesn’t express anything except anger,” Bhumi explained. “It’s like sitting in front of a wall.” This restraint initially made Bhumi doubt herself. “I thought I wasn’t doing enough.” But the makers encouraged her to trust the stillness.

Writer Amrit Raj Gupta explained why. “If she feels lost, if she feels blank that’s real.” Daldal weaponizes patience. It allows discomfort to build, trusting viewers to stay. Director Suresh Triveni admitted that even he struggled watching it. “It made me uncomfortable.” That discomfort is the payoff. When the character finally shifts, the impact is seismic not because of spectacle, but because of everything that was held back.

In an era obsessed with instant gratification, Daldal dares to wait. And in that waiting, it finds its power.
