Along with an ensemble cast of Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty, Border 2 also stars newcomer Medha Rana. She has been appreciated for her role as Varun’s wife. She got talking about her role and more in an interview with us.

Congratulations on a small part with a big heart and an even bigger impact. How are you tackling all the praise and compliments?
Honestly, it’s been overwhelming to say the least. I feel like I’m still soaking in all the love and appreciation that the film and my character are receiving. This film is a labour of love, hard work, and respect infused with the spirit of our nation’s brave hearts. So, all the love being received is the universe’s way of giving back to the film and the armed forces.
How did the role come your way, and what was your reaction to it?
I auditioned for it in October 2024 with Mukesh Chhabra sir’s team. I had multiple rounds of the audition process, followed by a final meeting with our director Anurag (Singh) sir and Mukesh sir, where they both told me that I was locked for the part and we celebrated with jalebis. I couldn’t believe it; I cried so much in front of them, and the first thing I did was call my mother. She got very emotional too.
All your scenes are with Varun Dhawan. Was he helpful as a co-star?
Varun has been the kindest, most supportive co-actor I’ve ever worked with. It was so easy for me to perform because he made it conducive and real. I was initially intimidated to work with such a big star and an incredible actor, also to be on such a big set. But Varun, from the very first day, made everything feel normal and fun, and all my inhibitions went away. I’m so lucky and happy that I got to do my big-screen debut with Varun! He’s really the best!
As someone with no connections in the film industry, has it been tough to keep your hopes alive while waiting?
It’s not an easy industry to crack into or even sustain; it takes a lot of hard work, perseverance, and patience – most importantly. The waiting is the worst part. It can push you into a lot of self-doubt and anxiety. It did happen with me too, multiple times. But I think what really kept me going was my family and the fact that they’ve been here with me in Bombay for most of my acting journey. Their support and belief in me are what truly kept me going.
Is this industry tough on newcomers, especially girls? How do you see the road ahead?
It’s not easy, for sure. But at the same time, it’s not an impossible path. It’s been walked on by so many exemplary outsiders who’ve created everything from scratch. I feel like it takes a lot of work for an actor to be taken seriously by both the industry and the audience. This certainly is dependent on many factors, like getting the right opportunities, being at the top of your game as an actor, and having people around who believe in you. I feel like I’ve been very blessed to have worked with the people that I have so far; they’ve all contributed to my journey in so many ways, and I’ve learned so much along the way. The road ahead is going to be the one less travelled by; I wish to make my own mark and explore different characters and be a part of stories that deserve to be told.
