Parmeet Sethi, famous for his villainous turn in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, has made a humorous demand of comedian-actor Kapil Sharma asking for “royalty” because of how often his name is used on the latter’s show. According to Sethi, Kapil mentions him so frequently in the commentary that Sethi feels he has become a recurring character on the show despite not appearing.
Sethi explained the scenario when speaking to Pinkvilla: “He should pay me royalty! I ask him to give me a royalty. He uses my name so much that even though I’m not physically present, I have become a character in that show.” He cheerfully added, “I’m happy that I can still be of some use somewhere.”
Delving into his prior work in comedy writing, Sethi noted that he has first-hand experience in the craft — having ghost-written and supervised a talk show featuring his wife, Archana Puran Singh, doing stand-up. He remarked that he thus appreciates the effort behind crafting jokes and praised Kapil’s improvisational talent. “He is an artist who doesn’t even need a script for performance,” Sethi said.
On his personal camaraderie with Kapil and his family, Sethi shared warm sentiments: “It is like family. Kapil is a sweetheart. Ginni (Kapil’s wife) is a sweetheart, his mother; they are all wonderful people, very homely. They love and respect us deeply, and we feel exactly the same way about them.” Concluding, he added, “Our relationship goes beyond just work.”
