As Ugly marks its 10th anniversary, actor Vineet Kumar Singh looks back on one of the most significant roles of his career. Directed by Anurag Kashyap, the dark thriller revolves around the kidnapping of a young girl and the murky relationships of the characters involved. Vineet portrayed Chaitanya Mishra, an aspiring actor and casting director whose complex motivations added depth to the story.
Speaking about the milestone, Vineet shared, “It’s a film that will always stay close to my heart. Ugly gave me the chance to be part of Anurag sir’s brilliant vision and explore a character that was so layered and intriguing. It not only challenged me as an actor but also taught me so much about storytelling.”
Ugly premiered in the Directors’ Fortnight section of the 2013 Cannes Film Festival, where it received a standing ovation and went on to earn acclaim at various international festivals. Vineet’s portrayal earned him several nominations for Best Supporting Actor and solidified his reputation as a talented and versatile actor.
