The Origins of ‘Chaar Botal Vodka’

Honey Singh shared that ‘Chaar Botal Vodka’ was penned during a particularly turbulent period in his career. While on a world tour with Shah Rukh Khan in 2013, shortly after the release of Chennai Express, Singh faced significant backlash from the Sikh community, who protested against his performances. The community accused him of corrupting the culture with his provocative lyrics. Despite the protests, Singh continued with the tour, supported by SRK, who assured him that he would not perform if Singh was barred from taking the stage.

Singh recounted the moment of inspiration for the song, stating, “I wrote that song after drinking four bottles of vodka with two other people in Australia. I was deeply hurt by the protests, and after a particularly intense performance, my choreographer and dancer joined me in my room. We started drinking, and by the time we were halfway through the second bottle, I began creating the beat for what would become ‘Chaar Botal Vodka.’”

Shah Rukh Khan’s Reaction and Support

Shah Rukh Khan’s reaction to the song was one of concern. According to Singh, when he played the track for SRK, the actor was taken aback and advised him against releasing it. “Tu pagal hai, kya gana banaya hai. This will be a flop. Gaaliyan padegi tereko (Are you mad? This will be a flop. You will get criticized),” SRK reportedly told him. However, Singh was determined to release the song, despite the warnings.

The song, characterized by its catchy beat and rebellious lyrics, went on to become a massive hit, cementing Honey Singh’s position in the Indian music industry. Despite the initial backlash and Shah Rukh’s concerns, ‘Chaar Botal Vodka’ remains one of Singh’s most popular tracks.

Addressing the Rumor: Did Shah Rukh Khan Slap Honey Singh?

In the same interview, Honey Singh also addressed the persistent rumor that Shah Rukh Khan had slapped him during the tour. When asked directly about the incident, Singh responded cryptically, “I can’t answer this here. You’ll hear about it in my documentary on Netflix.” However, he quickly clarified, stating, “Nothing like that happened,” effectively putting the rumor to rest.

Honey Singh’s collaboration with Shah Rukh Khan during the Chennai Express tour and the subsequent release of ‘Chaar Botal Vodka’ highlighted the rapper’s rebellious spirit and determination. While SRK had initially advised against releasing the track, Singh’s decision to go ahead with it paid off, turning the song into an anthem for many of his fans.
