Director Anees Bazmee’s son, Faizan A. Bazmee, has unveiled the trailer of his much-anticipated directorial debut short film Postman, headlined by veteran actor Sanjay Mishra.

The gripping trailer presents Mishra in a deeply moving and striking avatar as a postman, who finds himself in danger while protecting the most important letter of his life, amidst the Indo-Pak tension during the Kargil war. The short film, which has already been nominated and is making its way through several prestigious film festivals, has begun to generate strong buzz with its powerful storytelling and heartfelt performances.

Speaking about the trailer, Faizan A. Bazmee expressed his gratitude and excitement stating, “Cinema, for me, is about truth and emotion. With this trailer, I hope people feel the honesty with which this story has been told.”

In an exclusive quote, Anees Bazmee spoke about his son and his film saying, “I have always been proud of your simplicity, sincerity, dedication and athletic discipline and now, after watching your movie, I’m even more proud of the amazing work you’ve done. Hard work pays off; this is just the start betu.”

Earlier, Faizan had shared his experience of collaborating with Sanjay Mishra: “Working with Mr. Sanjay Mishra has been an experience every director dreams of. The whole world knows he is an amazing actor, and he’s truly spoilt me. I now find myself expecting that same level of commitment, dedication and sheer mastery of the craft from every actor I work with. Beyond his incredible talent, he’s a generous and humble human being who deeply loves his work.”

Co-written by Faizan and Shwet Parekh, Postman brings alive the poignant idea of a man whose professional duty unexpectedly turns personal. Faizan added, “We wanted to explore the idea of a postman who receives the most important letter of his own life. So, when you watch Postman, don’t expect performances. Expect truth.”

Produced by Parth Savalia, the film also features Tanishq Chaudhary and Samarth Shandilya in pivotal roles. With its emotional depth and compelling narrative, Postman promises to leave a lasting impact on audiences worldwide.

War 2’s pan-India gamble: A missed opportunity or overestimated factor?

When War 2 was announced, the formula looked bulletproof: Hrithik Roshan, the Hindi film industry’s most bankable action star, joining forces with Jr. NTR, riding high on his post-RRR pan-India aura, under the banner of Yash Raj Films’ Spy Universe. On paper, it was a masterstroke designed to unite markets and shatter records. In reality, the film’s box office trajectory has been sobering. Despite a strong pre-release buzz, the opening day collections faltered, raising questions not only about the Hindi market’s appetite but also about whether the Telugu version – expected to thrive on Jr. NTR’s stardom – delivered at all.

War 2’s pan-India gamble: A missed opportunity or overestimated factor?

Telugu version: Missed opportunity or overestimated factor?

Much of the post-release chatter has focused on the Telugu version’s underperformance. Taran Adarsh, Film Trade Analyst and Critic, voiced his surprise, “I am shocked at the underperformance of the Telugu version because everyone expected it to rock. Over there, the stardom is very big for NTR Jr. In this case, it just didn’t work. On the first day, the curiosity levels were there. But on the second day, it just went down. I don’t know, but the Telugu audience also must have felt, where’s the content?”

Girish Johar of Zee Studios, however, believes the problem lies deeper than regional reception: “When a film fails, it is a failure at the content level. It’s not that the film is doing well in Telugu and Tamil and not doing well in Hindi or vice versa. I believe dubbing the film was a calculated decision because it had Jr. NTR, and they got decent numbers in encashing the Telugu market as well. So, that being a reason for faltering, I doubt.”

Satadeep Saha, CEO of SSR Cinemas Pvt Ltd, echoed that view, “Overall, if the film isn’t good, it will not work in any of the versions. So, that is the case in this scenario also.”

The consensus is clear – the Telugu version didn’t underperform in isolation; it faltered because the content didn’t connect, regardless of language.

Hrithik vs. NTR: Who Drove the Opening?

One of the key questions around War 2 is whether the initial numbers were fuelled more by Hrithik Roshan’s proven action legacy or Jr. NTR’s rising pan-India appeal. Taran Adarsh sees it as a combination of multiple forces, “It’s a combined effort. There is Hrithik and NTR, and the YRF banner also played a major role. It’s a premium production house, and they have just delivered Saiyaara. All these factors contributed to the curiosity for the film. But unfortunately, the content has misfired.”

Exhibitor and distributor Akshaye Rathi also highlighted the strategic logic behind the casting, “Both have significant appeal. Jr. NTR also after RRR, has become a bit of a household name and a star whom people even in North India identify with. Theoretically, this casting is supposed to be a masterpiece because one is a superstar in the Hindi-speaking market and the other in Telugu Telugu-speaking market. The idea was to have two complementing and not cannibalizing markets. Unfortunately, the kind of impact that was expected, in terms of what Taarak could draw in Andhra-Telangana like he did with Devara, or other films of the past, didn’t happen.”

Vishek Chauhan, owner of Roopbani Cinema in Bihar, added a broader industry perspective, “To score in this genre, you need to make extraordinary films now. This was also another negative for War 2. Even Tiger 3 underperformed. Even the Cop Universe underperformed. Even the Marvel and DC films are underperforming. Even the Mission Impossible films are underperforming. Even Fighter saw diminishing returns.”

Chauhan also contrasted War 2’s struggle with the unexpected success of Saiyaara, “Saiyaara came as a breath of fresh air. People hadn’t seen such a film for a long time. Genres rise and die, and they again rise theatrically. I think people are looking more towards personal stories now, where the angst and agony are more personal. Although Animal was an action film, it was a very personal story. Similarly, John Wick’s story is also very personal. Also, a fresh genre like horror comedy will show good returns.”

The verdict emerging from the trade is unambiguous: War 2’s star-studded casting and multilingual strategy couldn’t override weak content. Hrithik Roshan’s track record and Jr. NTR’s stardom gave the film an opening, but the lack of emotional resonance and freshness in storytelling prevented it from sustaining.

From Black to Sarkar to Parineeta: 12 memorable films from 20 years ago

2005 was a significant year in Hindi cinema, with a perfect collage of mainstream and midstream films of varying patterns. For varying reasons, these 12 films are still fresh in memory two decades down. Incidentally, it was Abhishek Bachchan’s first and most happening year.

From Black to Sarkar to Parineeta: 12 memorable films from 20 years ago

Aashique Banaya Aapne / Director: Aditya Dhar

This low-budget thriller featuring Emraan Hashmi and Tanushree Dutta with Sonu Sood became a surprise hit. The main reason for its success was the unprecedented reception to its music, with Himesh Reshammiya turning singer with a vengeance. By 2006, Himesh had become a star-package of singer-composer and in 2007, he even faced the screen.

Black / Sanjay Leela Bhansali

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s first hit with protagonists who were physically challenged—neither Khamoshi—The Musical nor Guzaarish afterwards did well. Inspired by the life of the evergreen Helen Keller, the film had outstanding performances by Amitabh Bachchan and Rani Mukerji. For a Bhansali film, there was a surprise: the film was songless! It remained one of the only 7 films until 2010 that was a hit minus any songs.

Bluffmaster! / Rohan Sippy

Abhishek Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra, Nana Patekar and Riteish Deshmukh starred in this crisp crackerjack thriller tinged with sharp humour. Abhishek even made a smash-hit singing debut in ‘Right here right now’ with Sunidhi Chauhan. And for the first time in a Hindi movie, three classic songs, not one, were re-created or sampled: ‘Na biwi na baccha’ (Sabse Bada Rupaiya), ‘Tadbeer se bugdi hui’ (Baazi) and ‘Do aur do paanch’ from the film of that name.

Dus  / Anubhav Sinha

A blue-chip espionage drama with an ensemble cast and superb suspense, the film has few equals in that genre even now. In the lead cast of eight actors, supporting actors Pankaj Kapur and Ninad Kamat stole the show.

Iqbal / Nagesh Kukunoor

Producer Subhash Ghai decided to encourage talented filmmakers like Nagesh Kukunoor, whose sensibilities were markedly different from his own. The story of a young village boy who dares to dream lofty in playing cricket for India, this was a film that had you by the emotional plexus, thanks to its direction, script and the performances of Naseeruddin Shah, Shweta Basu Prasad and a debut-making Shreyas Talpade, all of whom, along with the film itself, bagged National and popular awards.

No Entry / Anees Bazmee

The gold standard now for adult-themed comedies that can yet be enjoyed by families together, No Entry remains the ultimate laugh-a-minute entertainer that can be watched and re-watched. Anil Kapoor, Salman Khan, Fardeen Khan, Bipasha Basu, Lara Dutta and everyone else were splendid in the movie, and writer-director Anees Bazmee achieved the impossible: making a remake that was leagues ahead of the original Tamil film and itself inspired remakes in multiple languages.

Page 3 / Madhur Bhandarkar

A biting satire on the Page 3 culture, this classic drama hit home at several social evils with trenchant force. The music was a highlight, and in a pioneering moment, Asha Bhosle recorded her song, ‘Huzoor-e-aala’ from the US, while its composer, Shamir Tandon, was in India! The film won three National awards, including for Best Film and Best Screenplay.

Paheli / Amol Palekar

Based on the Rajasthani short story, Duvidha, written by Vijayadan Detha in the 8th century, this comedy did not do so well in India but fared better abroad, as many Shah Rukh Khan films tended to do so in these years. The ensemble-cast hard-hitting social had brilliant music (M.M. Kreem a.k.a. M.M. Keeravani, now an Oscar-winning composer) and was a fantasy triangular romance between a simple woman, her negligent husband and a loving ghost who is the husband’s doppleganger. It was sent for the Best Foreign Film category at the Oscars.

Parineeta / Pradeep Sarkar

Ad filmmaker Pradeep Sarkar made an interesting adaptation of the time-tested Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay Bengali novella of the same name. Produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra and starring Saif Ali Khan, Vidya Balan (in a terrific big-screen debut) and Sanjay Dutt in the main roles, this romantic musical was a moderate success but is remembered for its songs (Shantanu Moitra) and cute quotient even now.

Sarkar / Ram Gopal Varma

Inspired both by the life and times of Shiv Sena chief Balasaheb Thackeray and by Mario Puzo’s The Godfather, this film was noted for subsequent sequels that went nowhere—Sarkar Raj (2008) and Sarkar 3 (2017) in later years. The beginning of a fairly long association between filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma and Amitabh Bachchan, it won Abhishek Bachchan three different Best Supporting Actor awards.

Other films that did well and have a fan following include Bunty Aur Babli, Garam Masala, Kyaa Kool Hain Hum, Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya, Salaam Namaste, Waqt—The Race Against Time and Zeher. Hanuman was the first animation film to become a major hit in the 1990s-to-millennium phase, while Socha Na Tha, a flop then, has since become a cult classic.

Significant talents introduced in 2005:

Filmmakers: Pradeep Sarkar (Parineeta), Imtiaz Ali (Socha Na Tha), Shaad Ali (Bunty Aur Babli), Siddharth Anand (Salaam Namaste) & Mohit Suri (Zeher, Kalyug).

Actors & Actresses: Vidya Balan (Parineeta), Shreyas Talpade (Iqbal) & Abhay Deol (Socha Na Tha).

Akshay Kumar reveals why he eats dinner at 6:30 pm every day; says, “you get your time to digest your food and the stomach is completely ready to rest”

Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar, celebrated not just for his cinematic versatility but also for his unwavering discipline, recently opened up about his health regimen during a media interaction held at the launch of Your Body Already Knows. The actor shared a simple yet impactful health tip that he claims is key to keeping illnesses at bay: having dinner at 6:30 PM every evening.

Akshay Kumar reveals why he eats dinner at 630 pm every day; says, “you get your time to digest your food and the stomach is completely ready to rest”

Explaining his logic, Akshay Kumar said, “6:30 baje khana kyun ek toh sabse important hai, aapke shareer ke liye sabse zyaada important hai, kyunki hum jab raat ko so jaate hain, our eyes are resting, our legs are resting, our hands are resting. Every part of our body is resting. But what is not resting is your stomach because we have eaten food late.”

He continued, “By the time you get up, it is time for him to relax. But when we get up we eat our breakfast and again the poor stomach is working. It’s working very hard. I’m explaining it in a very very simple way. And you all know, aap sabhi jaante hain ki jo pet hai, wohi ek sabse, matlab, jitni bhi bimariyaan hoti hain woh sab wahi se aati hain.”

Adding further, Akshay emphasized the importance of digestive well-being for overall health, “So it is important. I think saare shareer ke andar agar aap sabse zyaada dhyaan apne pet ka rakhenge, I think bimariyaan aapke nazdeek nahi aayengi. Toh yahi main humesha follow karta hun. Toh 6:30 baje khana isliye zaroori hai kyunki you get your time to digest your food and by the time when you are about to sleep by 9-9:30, 10 o clock, the stomach is completely ready to rest and that’s it.”

On the work front, the fitness-conscious actor is currently gearing up for Jolly LLB 3, in which he reunites with Arshad Warsi, and continues to maintain his status as one of Bollywood’s most disciplined performers.

Two cult hits, two crashing sequels: The STRANGE, shared fate of War 2 and Joker: Folie à Deux

The biggest Hindi film of 2025, War 2, has turned out to be a big debacle. The film opened below expectations on Thursday, August 14. The growth on Friday, August 15, did provide some hope. But the drop in the collections over the weekend was alarming. The film then crashed big time on Monday, which made it clear that it had been rejected across the board after the initial hype.

Two cult hits, two crashing sequels: The STRANGE, shared fate of War 2 and Joker: Folie à Deux

This kind of underperformance wasn’t expected for multiple reasons. It was part of a cinematic universe that has had a 100% success track record. The star cast was enticing. Moreover, the first part, War (2019), was a blockbuster and has a separate fan base.

Coincidentally, War was released alongside the Hollywood film Joker. The similarity between the sequels of these two films is uncanny. Just like War, Joker was also a rage. It got critical acclaim and also commercial success. It prompted its makers to announce the sequel, Joker: Folie à Deux.

The excitement for War 2 was immense as it brought Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR together. With Joker: Folie à Deux, Joaquin Phoenix was joined by Lady Gaga. With both films, the expectation was that even in the worst-case scenario, these films would turn out to be average and would still make some money at the box office.

Sadly, both films suffered the same fate. Joker: Folie à Deux was released in October last year and was outright rejected for its poor content. It had an instant effect on its box office performance, and the film became a loss-making proposition. It was unbelievable to see that while the first film became a cult, the sequel turned out to be damp squib.

The same has now happened with War 2. Most of the moviegoers have failed to connect with the storyline and the conflict and hence the negativity surrounding the film is immense. Again, no one expected that the War series would have to see such a day.

In conclusion, the failure of War 2 and Joker: Folie à Deux serves as a stark reminder that brand value, star power and franchise legacy alone cannot guarantee success. Ultimately, it’s the strength of the content that resonates with audiences. And when that falters, even the most hyped films can fall flat.

Nora Fatehi on bagging Kanchana 4: “I immediately felt it was the right project to step into Tamil cinema”

Nora Fatehi is stepping into Tamil cinema with a bang as she headlines Kanchana 4, the much-awaited fourth instalment of the popular horror-comedy franchise. Already riding high on the success of her latest song ‘Oh Mama! Tetema’, Nora is embracing this new phase of her career with enthusiasm.

Talking to Hindustan Times, about why she chose Kanchana 4, the actor shared, “When Kanchana 4 was offered to me, I immediately felt it was the right project to step into Tamil cinema. The franchise already has such a strong legacy, and the script was so unique that I wanted to be part of it. I was looking to be a part of another comedy after the success of Madgaon Express.”

Language has been a challenge, but Nora isn’t one to shy away from experiments. “Of course language is always a challenge, but I love challenges. I’ve had to adapt to Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam before, and now Tamil. It’s definitely the hardest so far but I spend extra hours rehearsing my lines and working on the pronunciation,” she explained.

What has kept her motivated is the encouragement she’s received on set. “The nicest thing has been the crew telling me they didn’t expect me to be so natural in the comic bits. That kind of feedback really keeps me going. And I feel it’s about respecting the culture, the language, and giving your best,” said Nora, who has earlier acted in films like Be Happy.

With experience in Malayalam and Telugu industries too, Nora reflected on the differences she’s noticed. “Every industry has its own flavour. Tamil cinema is very rooted in storytelling, and there’s a lot of emphasis on performance and strong scripts. Bollywood, on the other hand, has its own larger-than-life energy. Both industries are passionate about cinema, but the styles of working, the audience expectations, and even the filmmaking processes feel slightly different. For me, it’s exciting to experience and learn from both worlds.”

Kanchana 4 is directed by Raghava Lawrence and it also stars Pooja Hegde.

Adivi Sesh addresses ‘this crucial stage’ of his career as he gears up for Dacoit and G2; says, “I’m not just chasing scale — I’m chasing soul”

Actor Adivi Sesh is set to take a significant leap in his career with two highly anticipated projects that promise to elevate his standing on the national stage. The actor will headline two large-scale films across Hindi and Pan-India circuits, marking a phase of back-to-back releases that blend scale, storytelling, and cross-regional appeal.

Adivi Sesh addresses ‘this crucial stage’ of his career as he gears up for Dacoit and G2; says, “I’m not just chasing scale — I’m chasing soul”

The first of these projects is Dacoit, a genre-bending action thriller interwoven with an intense and layered love story. Starring opposite Mrunal Thakur, the film is slated for a Christmas 2025 theatrical release. The Hindi-language project is positioned as a big-ticket entertainer with emotional depth, aiming to expand the boundaries of its genre.

Following Dacoit, Sesh will be seen returning to his celebrated espionage franchise with G2 – Godachari 2. The Pan-India spy-thriller, which is the much-awaited sequel to his cult hit Goodachari, is scheduled for release on May 1, 2026. Joining him in this high-octane chapter of India’s homegrown spy universe is Wamiqa Gabbi, who will be seen in a dynamic new role that adds further intrigue to the film’s narrative.

Both films are being shot simultaneously in Hindi and Telugu, reflecting Sesh’s vision of creating stories that transcend language and region, appealing to audiences across the country and beyond.

Speaking about this crucial stage in his career, Sesh commented: “I’ve always felt that good cinema goes beyond language. With Dacoit and G2, I’m not just chasing scale — I’m chasing soul. While one is an emotional action-thriller driven by love and longing, the other is an expansive spy adventure that builds on the world of Goodachari. Both may belong to different genres and language, but they’re united by a sincere effort to tell Indian stories with a global vision and emotional depth. Teaming up with incredible talents like Mrunal and Wamiqa and working with dreamers who think as big as I do, is both daunting and thrilling. I believe it’s time Indian cinema stopped waiting for validation — we’re here to tell our stories on our terms, and I’m proud to be part of that movement.”

With these projects, Adivi Sesh aims at consolidating his position in Pan-India cinema but also making a determined foray into the Hindi film industry. As anticipation builds for Dacoit and G2, both films are already being counted among the most awaited releases in the upcoming cinematic calendar.

War 2 Box Office: Hrithik Roshan – NTR Jr starrer enters Rs. 100 Cr Club; 9th release of 2025 to achieve the milestone

Yash Raj Films’ War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan, NTR Jr., and Kiara Advani, has officially entered the coveted Rs. 100 crore club, becoming the ninth release of 2025 to achieve this feat. Released on August 14, the high-octane action entertainer hit the Rs. 100 cr mark within just four days, placing it among the fastest grossers of the year.

War 2 Box Office: Hrithik Roshan – NTR Jr starrer enters Rs. 100 Cr Club; 9th release of 2025 to achieve the milestone

According to box office reports, War 2 opened on a strong note with Rs. 28 cr on Day 1 (Thursday). The film saw a massive Independence Day boost on Day 2 (Friday), raking in Rs. 45 cr, marking a 60.71% jump. However, the film experienced a noticeable drop over the weekend, collecting Rs. 24 cr on Saturday (down 46.67%) and Rs. 23 cr on Sunday (down 4.17%). Despite the decline, the four-day extended weekend total comfortably pushed War 2 past the Rs. 100 cr milestone.

With this, War 2 joins the league of 2025’s major box office successes, though its trajectory raises interesting comparisons with other big-ticket releases. For instance, Chhaava remains the year’s biggest hit, storming into the Rs. 100 cr club in just three days before ending with an all-time high Rs. 600.10 cr lifetime. Following closely, Saiyaara and Housefull 5 both crossed Rs. 100 cr in four days, eventually finishing at Rs. 330.45 cr and Rs. 160.72 cr respectively.

War 2’s four-day journey to Rs. 100 cr puts it in the same bracket as Saiyaara and Housefull 5 in terms of speed. However, its performance so far seems more frontloaded, with a steep drop post-Independence Day. Whether the film can sustain beyond its extended opening weekend and replicate the massive legs of Chhaava or Saiyaara remains the key question for trade circles.

So far, 2025 has seen an impressive run at the box office, with diverse genres making their mark. From historical epics like Chhaava, to youthful love stories like Saiyaara, to animation with Mahavatar Narsimha, the industry has witnessed a resurgence. War 2’s entry into the Rs. 100 cr club cements its place among the year’s headline releases, though its ultimate lifetime business will depend on how it counters competition and sustains in the weeks ahead.

Fastest Rs. 100 cr grossers of 2025 at a glance:
Chhaava – Rs. 600.10 cr – 3 Days
Saiyaara – Rs. 330.45 cr – 4 Days
Housefull 5 – Rs. 160.72 cr – 4 Days
War 2 – Rs. 120 cr – 4 Days
Sky Force – Rs. 131.44 cr – 8 Days
Raid 2 – Rs. 178.08 cr – 9 Days
Sitaare Zameen Par – Rs. 165.27 cr – 9 Days

EXCLUSIVE: Anupamaa actor Shivam Khajuria champions stray dogs rights; says, “Every living being deserves the freedom to live”

Actor Shivam Khajuria, known for his role in Anupamaa, has shared a heartfelt reflection on empathy and compassion towards animals, particularly the strays who share our streets.

EXCLUSIVE: Anupamaa actor Shivam Khajuria champions stray dogs rights; says, “Every living being deserves the freedom to live”

In an exclusive quote with Bollywood Hungama Shivam expressed, “Independence, to me, is a right every living being should have,” highlighting his concern for the treatment of street animals. Recent reports of strays having to be removed from public spaces have struck a chord with the actor. “On the sets of Anupamaa, the strays have become part of our family. We feed them, make sure they have water and give them a place to rest. I can’t imagine them without that safety,” he said.

For Shivam, the issue is not just about relocation but about dignity and compassion. “If changes have to be made, I hope they’re done with kindness, ensuring these animals have proper shelter, food, and care. They may not have a voice, but they have every right to live freely, just like us,” he added. The actor firmly believes that coexistence with strays is not a burden but a responsibility. By extending small gestures of care; be it food, water, or simply allowing them space to belong.

Through his words, Shivam Khajuria reminds us that the true measure of progress is not just in how we build our cities, but also in how we care for the most vulnerable beings who share them with us.

Reshma Pathan recalls the time Dharmendra gifted her Rs 100 after a daring stunt on Sholay set

Reshma Pathan, famously known as the Sholay Girl and celebrated as India’s first stuntwoman, has opened up about one of the most memorable moments of her career—the day Dharmendra personally appreciated her courage with a Rs 100 note.

Reshma Pathan recalls the time Dharmendra gifted her Rs 100 after a daring stunt on Sholay set

In an interview with The Quint, Pathan recounted a harrowing incident from the sets of Sholay, during the sequence where Gabbar burns down the village of Ramgarh. Cast as a village girl, she was required to run behind a young child and pick her up as hundreds of horses thundered across the set. “During the shot, the girl fell down. There were about 300-400 horses around us… how could I have left her? It was about her life,” Pathan recalled.

Without hesitation, she shielded the child with her own body. “Pathan remembers instantly throwing herself over her and wrapping her arms around her. By the time, the horses came very close. I was scared too, but one needs to use presence of mind in such situations. I somehow managed to roll us out safely as the horses galloped past us.”

Impressed by her bravery, Dharmendra called her over after the scene. “He even gave me Rs 100—in those days, it was a big deal. I wasn’t taking it until Azimji told me I should. Dharamji spoke to me with a lot of respect,” she said. For Pathan, that note became a prized possession she held on to for nearly a decade. She only parted with it in 1984, during a period of financial hardship.

Reshma Pathan’s story is not just about one gesture of appreciation but about breaking barriers in a male-dominated industry. Starting her career at just 14, she went on to work in more than 400 films, often performing dangerous stunts for leading actresses like Hema Malini. Her journey from poverty and street stunts to Bollywood fame was filled with risks, injuries, and systemic challenges.

Yet moments like Dharmendra’s respect and recognition remain etched in her memory. For audiences, they serve as reminders of the unseen heroes behind Hindi cinema’s most iconic films.

Isha Koppikar highlights poverty and education as India’s ‘real test of strength’ this Independence Day

As India prepares to celebrate its 79th Independence Day on August 15, actress Isha Koppikar shared a heartfelt message urging the nation to address pressing domestic challenges. Speaking about the meaning of true independence, Koppikar emphasized that political sovereignty alone is not enough.

Isha Koppikar highlights poverty and education as India’s ‘real test of strength’ this Independence Day

“As we hoist our tricolor and sing our national anthem with pride, I believe it’s time for us to focus on gaining independence from the two biggest enemies that still hold our nation back – poverty and lack of education,” she said, highlighting the need for comprehensive social reform.

Known for her impactful roles in both mainstream and socially relevant cinema, Isha drew parallels between the freedom struggle of the past and today’s challenges. She stressed that genuine independence can only be achieved when all citizens have access to basic necessities and quality education.

“Our freedom fighters gave us political independence, but the real test of our nation’s strength lies in ensuring that no child goes to bed hungry and no young mind is deprived of learning opportunities. This should be our new freedom struggle – one that requires every Indian to participate,” she added.

Isha’s message comes at a time when socio-economic disparities continue to persist despite India’s growing global stature. She urged citizens to channel the same determination that fueled the independence movement toward overcoming these challenges. “Independence Day should remind us that freedom isn’t just about celebrating what we’ve achieved, but also about committing ourselves to what we still need to accomplish. Let’s make poverty and illiteracy as obsolete as colonial rule, so that no one dreams of moving out of our nation and dreams to be in their very own progressive viksit Bharat,” Isha concluded, calling for collective action and responsibility.

By highlighting poverty and education as the new benchmarks of national progress, Isha Koppikar’s message encourages Indians to reflect on the broader meaning of freedom and actively contribute to building a more equitable and prosperous country.

Myths are embedded deep within our DNA because of the stories that were handed down over generations by our elders which is why we instantly connect to content with such tonality. One of the most talked-about moments came when Vicky Kaushal decided to have a little fun at his director’s expense. Trade predicts that War 2 can cross Chhaava’s day 1 collections and emerge as the HIGHEST opener of the year: “Collections of Hindi + Telugu can be around Rs. 70 cr”

48 hours are left for the release of War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, and the excitement is tremendous. Bollywood Hungama spoke to trade experts to understand more about its hype and opening day collections.

Trade predicts that War 2 can cross Chhaava’s day 1 collections and emerge as the HIGHEST opener of the year: “Collections of Hindi + Telugu can be around Rs. 70 cr”

Trade veteran Taran Adarsh said, “The advances have just opened on Sunday. So, it’s too early to comment. Let’s see how it pans out. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday are crucial days. Right now, what I see is not a great trend when you compare it to War (2019) and YRF’s (Yash Raj Films) recent release, Saiyaara. However, comparisons are not right as it belongs to a different genre. At the same time, since it was a newcomer film, the bookings of War 2 should have been better. As of now, it’s not looking great.”

He continued, “It’s a long weekend. The first day will be huge, while the second day will be massive. Then it boils down to the content. Andhra Pradesh and Telangana haven’t opened yet and that should add to advance sales massively.”

Film exhibitor and distributor Akshaye Rathi stated, “The advances are warming up. It’s a film starring two true-blue superstars from two complementary markets rather than markets that cannibalize each other. I really hope to see Hrithik’s stardom draw the people at scale in the Hindi-speaking markets and Jr NTR’s fans helping the film open ballistically in Andhra/Telangana. I am fairly confident that it’ll be among the highest ever day 1 opener for any Hindi film in history.”

The biggest opener of the year so far is Chhaava. Its first day collections were Rs. 33.10 crores. When asked if War 2 can go past these figures, Akshaye Rathi replied, “100%. No doubt about that. Also, the Telugu version will be humongous. So, I feel the Chhaava day 1 figure would be crossed, not just in Hindi, but a similar figure would be generated in Andhra/Telangana alone. This means the film has the potential to open at Rs. 70 crores.”

But Taran Adarsh said, “It’s a bit too early right now. I always maintain that there’s always a chance of having a solid spot booking. That’s what is expected on Thursday.”

Trade analyst Atul Mohan exulted, “The advance is weak. War 2 belongs to a big franchise. War is Hrithik’s biggest hit and also his biggest opener. With Jr NTR joining the cast, one expected a lot more. However, the assets failed to generate enough hype. The teaser and trailer both got mixed reactions. Even the songs did not go viral, like it did for War’s first part. Overall, the excitement that should be there for a big film hasn’t happened yet.”

When asked if War 2’s first day figures can cross Chhaava’s day 1 collections, Atul Mohan answered, “I really doubt as it’s a working Thursday. Moreover, ticket rates are quite high, which might deter the audience. Hence, people would wait for the feedback. The next day, August 15, would be huge as it’s a national holiday. But God forbid, if the reports are not encouraging, it can prove detrimental.”

Taran Adarsh added, “War is the biggest film so far this year and hence, the expectations are humongous due to the association of Yash Raj – this is their immediate release after Saiyaara – and also because of the star cast and popularity of the Spy Universe. The time is also great as people are visiting theatres. At the promotional event in Hyderabad, NTR praised the film to the skies. The same goes for Hrithik. When actors with this experience make such claims, we should take it very seriously. The little I have interacted with NTR, he’s a very practical man. He’s not going to comment just to make a film hot. People like NTR or even Hrithik let their work speak for themselves. NTR’s statement increases the expectation as well and I feel it will be a huge opener. Let Thursday come.”

Web Series Review: SAARE JAHAN SE ACCHA rests on bravura performances and nail-biting scenes

Star Cast: Pratik Gandhi, Sunny Hinduja, Suhail Nayyar, Rajat Kapoor, Tillotama Shome, Kritika Kamra

Director: Sumit Purohit

Synopsis:
SAARE JAHAN SE ACCHA is the story of a man on a dangerous mission. The year is 1972. Vishnu Shankar (Pratik Gandhi) works in R&AW. He’s carrying the guilt of not being able to save Vikram Sarabhai from a plane crash. He had confirmed intel that the life of the scientist is in danger, but before he could get permission to act, the plane had already taken off. He works under R N Kao (Rajat Kapoor) and the former tells the latter that he wishes to go to Pakistan after getting information that President Bhutto (Hemant Kher) is secretly trying to build a nuclear bomb. This is also the time when he gets married to Mohini (Tillotama Shome). Vishnu’s Pakistani trip gets confirmed and he and Mohini move to the neighbouring country. On paper, he has joined the Embassy of India; in reality, his job is to find out about Pakistan’s nuclear program and stop them at all costs. Vishnu has a network of trusted sources and undercover agents like Brigadier Naushad Ahmed (Anup Soni) of the Pakistan army, stockbroker Rafiq Ahmed aka Sukhbir (Suhail Nayyar), etc. Yet, there’s a lot of danger because of the hostile Pakistani administration. Moreover, Murtaza Malik (Sunny Hinduja) is a sharp Pakistani officer who has his eyes on Vishnu. What happens next forms the rest of the series.

Saare Jahan Se Accha Story Review:
Gaurav Shukla and Bhavesh Mandalia’s story is interesting, but also gets a bit clichéd as viewers have seen a few films in the same zone. Gaurav Shukla and Bhavesh Mandalia’s screenplay (additional screenplay by Shivam Shankar) also gets affected for the same reason. However, the writers have peppered the narrative with some tense moments. Gaurav Shukla and Bhavesh Mandalia’s dialogues (additional dialogues by Kushal Kushwah and Ishraq Shah; voiceover dialogues by Gaurav Sharma) are sharp.

Sumit Purohit’s direction is decent. He has fleshed out the principal characters very well. The setting is also a bit scary – one can feel that Vishnu has stepped into a dangerous territory. Murtaza’s character adds to the fear as he’s shown to be a ruthless person when it comes to traitors. A few scenes are memorable, like Vishnu meeting Murtaza for the first time, Naushad explaining why he chose to spy for India, Rafiq’s breakdown, Rafiq compelled to kill a man to hide his secret, etc. Fatima Khan’s (Kritika Kamra) track also enhances the drama.

On the flipside, though SAARE JAHAN SE ACCHA deals with an unknown chapter of India and Pakistan, it still reminds one of films like D-DAY [2013], RAAZI [2018], ROMEO AKBAR WALTER [2019], MISSION MAJNU [2023], etc. Just like these movies, the show is also about Indians spying in Pakistan in the 1970s. Secondly, the execution is a bit haphazard in some places. A few developments are convenient. The Gadani port is completely secured by the Pakistani forces. Yet, Vishnu and his associates sneak in; the makers never explain how they managed to do so. The action-packed climax doesn’t work as intended. In fact, the finale is very quick. Some major characters disappear after a point and one wonders what happened to them, especially after the way things unfold in the finale.

Saare Jahan Se Accha Performances:
Pratik Gandhi is in top form, as expected. He gets the act of a sharp and intelligent officer right and his dialogue delivery and voiceovers are spot-on. Sunny Hinduja is damn good as the antagonist. His mere presence enhances the tension and that’s quite praiseworthy. Suhail Nayyar gets to play a very well-written character and he rocks the show with his performance. Rajat Kapoor is impactful as always. Tillotama Shome shines, though the marital issue track is not convincingly depicted. Kritika Kamra has a late entry; she makes up for it with her performance. Anup Soni, Hemant Kher and Ninad Kamat (Adhikari) are dependable. Munir Khan (Atul Kumar), Rajesh Khera (Bilal) and Kapil Radha (Rizwan) leave a huge mark. Diksha Juneja (Naseem) has a fine screen presence and does well. Kunal Thakur (Vikram; spy in France) is okay and his character is half-baked. The others who do a decent job are Nakul Roshan Sahdev (Ghulam; who works with Murtaza), Avantika Akerkar (Indira Gandhi), Stephanie Schlesser (Marya; Mossad agent) and Shaurya Shah (Altamash; Naushad’s son).

Saare Jahan Se Accha music and other technical aspects:
SAARE JAHAN SE ACCHA is a song-less show. Ketan Sodha’s background score is in sync with the show’s mood. Dmytro Nedria, Debojeet Ray and Jay Patel’s cinematography is satisfactory. Sukanta Panigrahy’s production design and Veera Kapur Ee’s costumes are straight out of the bygone era. Sunil Rodrigues, Paramjeet Singh and Javed Karim’s action is not too gory. Aarif Sheikh’s editing is slick but too quick in some scenes.

Saare Jahan Se Accha Review Conclusion:
On the whole, SAARE JAHAN SE ACCHA rests on bravura performances and nail-biting scenes. But the overall impact is slightly diluted by a rushed climax and a sense of déjà vu from films like D-DAY, RAAZI, etc.

Rating: 3 stars

Mrunal Thakur sets the record straight on dating rumors with Dhanush: “He’s just a good friend”

Actress Mrunal Thakur has recently addressed swirling dating rumors involving popular actor Dhanush, firmly brushing them aside as light-hearted and baseless. In an interview cited by Only Kollywood, Mrunal clarified their relationship, stating, “Dhanush is just a good friend to me,” putting an end to the rampant speculation.

Mrunal Thakur sets the record straight on dating rumors with Dhanush: “He’s just a good friend”

The rumors began gaining momentum after Mrunal was spotted at the wrap-up party of Tere Ishq Mein, an upcoming film starring Dhanush and Kriti Sanon, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Aanand L Rai. This sighting, coupled with a brief but widely circulated moment shared by the duo during the Son of Sardaar 2 screening, further fuelled gossip in entertainment circles and on social media platforms.

Mrunal also addressed the buzz created by her recent Instagram activity where she followed Dhanush’s sister, a move that fans eagerly interpreted as a sign of a close connection. However, the actress laughed off these assumptions, adding, “Dhanush attended the Son of Sardaar 2 event. No one should misunderstand that. It was Ajay Devgn who invited him.”

Dhanush, one of South Indian cinema’s most celebrated actors, has had a complex personal life that has often been under media scrutiny. He was previously married to actress Aishwarya Rajinikanth, daughter of superstar Rajinikanth. The couple, who have two children, divorced amicably over a year ago. Despite his separation, Dhanush has maintained a dignified and private approach toward his personal relationships.

Both Mrunal Thakur and Dhanush have chosen to keep their personal lives away from the limelight, focusing instead on their flourishing careers. Mrunal, known for her versatile roles in films like Sita Ramam and Family Star, continues to impress audiences with her acting prowess. Meanwhile, Dhanush’s career spans numerous critically acclaimed films such as Asuran and Raanjhanaa, with a strong fan base across India and abroad.

This recent clarification from Mrunal comes as a breath of fresh air amid a sea of unfounded rumors, reminding fans and followers to separate facts from fiction. With both actors concentrating on their professional commitments, it seems the rumored romance is nothing more than a friendly camaraderie.

As the industry buzzes with news of their upcoming projects, fans eagerly await fresh updates from Mrunal and Dhanush — minus the gossip.
