Mohan Babu involved in altercation with journalist amid property dispute, FIR filed after reporter hospitalized

Veteran Tollywood actor Mohan Babu was involved in an altercation with a media person at his residence in Hyderabad on Tuesday, resulting in the journalist being hospitalized with multiple fractures to his zygomatic bone. The incident occurred amid ongoing tension and a property dispute. An FIR has been filed against the senior actor for assault following the incident.

Mohan Babu, reportedly lost his temper when a journalist, Ranjith Kumar of TV9 Telugu, asked about the ongoing property dispute with his son, actor Manchu Manoj. In a fit of rage, Mohan Babu snatched the microphone and attacked the reporter with it while using abusive language. As a result, Ranjith Kumar sustained three fractures and was admitted to Shamshabad hospital. Following the incident, an FIR was registered at the Pahadishareef police station under Section 118(1) (Voluntarily causing hurt) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), based on Ranjith’s complaint.

The situation at the Manchu family residence in Jalpally escalated when Manoj broke the gate to force his way inside after being denied entry. The dramatic events unfolded further with the arrival of Mohan Babu’s elder son, actor Manchu Vishnu, who had just returned from abroad. The ongoing tensions between the family members have led to a series of confrontations and media attention, turning the situation into a film-like spectacle.

“While they were performing their journalistic duties, Mohan Babu confronted them aggressively, intentionally grabbed the mike (made of steel pipe and metal logo) and attacked them,” the FIR read.

Following the attack on journalist Ranjith Kumar, journalists in Hyderabad staged protests on Wednesday, December 11, condemning the assault. The Delhi Telugu Journalists Association (DTJA) issued a statement expressing strong disapproval, stated, “Attacking the press demonstrates a lack of respect for this vital institution and reflects a deeply troubling state of mind.” The protest highlighted the importance of press freedom and the need for accountability, as well as the growing concerns over attacks on media personnel.

On Monday, Manoj Manchu, son of actor Mohan Babu, filed a police complaint claiming that he was attacked by around 10 individuals at his residence on Sunday. Manoj, along with his brother Vishnu, had been in talks with their father, Mohan Babu, before the incident occurred. Following the attack, Manoj and his wife Mounike visited the office of the Director General of Police and met with Additional Director General of Police (Law & Order) Mahesh Bhagwat. During the meeting, Manoj expressed concerns over the threat to his family’s safety and requested security for his wife and children, citing the ongoing tensions at their house over the past few days.

The situation at Manoj Manchu’s residence took a dramatic turn when he returned to his Jalpally house to find the gate locked and bouncers stationed at the entrance. When they refused to let him in, citing his daughter inside, Manoj forcefully broke the gate and entered with his private security and some media personnel. During this incident, a TV reporter’s question provoked Mohan Babu, who grabbed the reporter’s microphone and attacked him. The actor’s bouncers then pushed the media out of the premises.
