Citadel: Honey Bunny is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated spy thrillers, as it promises a gritty, raw, and action-packed glimpse into the world of espionage. The recently released trailer has sparked global excitement, giving fans a preview of intense hand-to-hand combat, high-energy action scenes and edge-of-the-seat thrills, setting the stage for an adrenaline-packed experience. Adding to the show’s unique appeal, Samantha praised the decision to set the series in the 90s, calling it a brilliant move and shared how it brings authenticity to the series.
Speaking about taking up the character of Honey, Samantha Ruth Prabhu shared, “It’s not gimmicky and full of high-tech gadgets and technology. The world that is created is so real. The characters are genuinely relatable—ordinary people placed in extraordinary circumstances. That drew me in immediately. I also believe it was a brilliant move to set the show in the nineties. Everything about this world feels authentic. By choosing the 90s as the backdrop, there’s a greater dependence on human capabilities rather than on gadgets. It’s more about human wit and hand-to-hand combat, resulting in a very raw experience. When you think of a spy film, high-tech gadgets and fancy technology often come to mind, but those elements can overshadow emotions and character arcs. This approach makes it more exciting for an actor. I think this is a very original way of doing things, completely different from the norm. It was an original idea, and I truly believe it was the best decision for the show.”
Produced by D2R Films and Amazon MGM Studios, Citadel: Honey Bunny is directed by Raj & DK and executive produced by the Russo Brothers’ AGBO, with Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Angela Russo-Otstot, and Scott Nemes from AGBO, alongside David Weil (Hunters) overseeing the series and all productions within the Citadel universe. Midnight Radio also serves as an executive producer.
The series stars Varun Dhawan alongside Samantha in the lead, with an exceptional ensemble cast featuring Kay Kay Menon, Simran, Saqib Saleem, Sikandar Kher, Soham Majumdar, Shivankit Parihar, and Kashvi Majmundar. Citadel: Honey Bunny premieres exclusively on Prime Video on November 7.
