Dharma Productions is bringing together Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor for a new film titled Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari. This marks their second collaboration after starring in the 2023 film Bawaal. The project reunites Dhawan with director Shashank Khaitan, with whom he previously delivered the successful Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania and Badrinath Ki Dulhania. The official announcement for the film arrived in February 2024, with a release date set for April 18, 2025.
On Saturday, May 4, the filming commenced, with both Dhawan and Kapoor sharing glimpses from the sets on their social media. The energetic atmosphere hints at a fun-filled rom-com in the making, further fueled by the peppy song ‘Ishq Manzoor’ playing in the background of Kapoor’s Instagram story. “Day 1: Sincere Gratitude,” the caption read.
Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari boasts an exciting ensemble cast. Reports suggest that Sanya Malhotra, Akshay Oberoi and Rohit Saraf have joined the project for pivotal roles. The film promises to be a quintessential entertainer with romance at its core, reminiscent of Khaitan’s previous directorial ventures.
As per a few reports, the film aligns perfectly with Dharma Productions’ signature style – a vibrant celebration of love infused with music, larger-than-life sets, and a stellar cast. A source elaborated, “The premise of SSKTK is very close to the kind of films that Dharma is known for as it celebrates love with color, music, scale, and a strong star cast.”
The production is gearing up for a rapid shoot, with the initial schedule kicking off in Mumbai. Picturesque locations in Rajasthan are also on the cards, with the possibility of international shoots being explored. Interestingly, the makers aim to wrap up filming by the end of 2024.
Shashank Khaitan’s last directorial outing was Govinda Naam Mera, a Disney+ Hotstar release starring a different trio – Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi Pednekar, and Kiara Advani.
While Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari keeps him occupied, Varun Dhawan has a packed year ahead. He recently wrapped his upcoming masala action film Baby John, directed by Kalees and produced by Atlee Kumar, slated for release in 2024. This will be followed by another film directed by his father, David Dhawan, later this year.
Janhvi Kapoor is no less busy. Her upcoming projects include the pan-India films Devara: Part 1 with Jr. NTR, RC16 with Ram Charan and the period saga Karna with Suriya. Additionally, she has Karan Johar’s Mr and Mrs Mahi and Junglee Pictures’ Ulajh in the pipeline.
